Why You Should Use Autoparsing in Your WoWDB Comments
By Simca
Benefits of Autoparsing
- You can link multiple things in a row without bugs.
- You can add letters to the end of a link to correct grammar (i.e. White Kittens instead of White Kitten).
- It automatically uses the Live page if possible but will then revert to the PTR page if not possible.
- It automatically reparses from time to time, preventing your links from becoming outdated if the item name changes (this is big because right now people have to go through stuff with old names and fix them).
- Icons are automatically added for items, spells, and a few other things.
- Quality coloring is added to the name for items.
How to Use Autoparsing
- Go to a page you want to link to and copy its URL (shortcut: CTRL+C if only link selected).
- Click into the comment box back on your article's page at the place where you want to add the link.
- Activate Bold font (shortcut: CTRL+B).
- Right-click and go to Paste as Plain Text (shortcut: CTRL+SHIFT+V).
- Deactivate Bold font (shortcut: CTRL+B).

P.S. Technically it can be done without the bold font, but you lose the advantages of point #1 and point #2 on my list. The bold is required for those parts to work.

Thanks for the detailed post, Simca. It's really helping me out now that I know how to get full use out of the auto-parser.

For whomever to do: I spotted another player-created (summoned?) NPC that needs to be removed from a zone's list of NPCs.

I noticed the latest update to WoWDB has changed the diagonal Live-to-PTR banner has been changed into a sliding toggle. I'm not sure that I like the change because it isn't conspicuous.
Also, excluding links for items, all links in comments are now a medium grey color. This color is more difficult to read and is causing my eyes some strain. Please revert.

Link color will be fixed in the next update, along with several other little CSS issues. I'll see what can be done about the toggle, but we needed the space it was in for the search box.
When I hover over the toggle on the live main page, the PTR link points to Marniel Amberlight instead of the PTR main page.
It would be very nice to have the tab forced to start in the search field when landing on WoWDB's front page. That way, I can just start typing in what I am looking for as soon as the web page is loaded.

I am unable to report comments while browsing ptr.wowdb.com because there is no Reason to select from the drop-down list. Strangely, there is no such issue when using the live version of WoWDB.
Tested in Firefox 22.0 and Chrome 28.0.1500.72 m with all browser extensions disabled.

I am currently experiencing a bug involving looking at WoWDB maps (or at least becomes apparent when looking at a map). The problem exists on both Live and PTR versions of the database. I tried resolving it by disabling all my browser extensions and force-refreshing the page, but there was no difference. I'm using Chrome 28.0.1500.95 m and Firefox 22.0.
Ignore the black bar under the URL; I did that to mask my bookmark bar.

I've discovered that trying to edit a comment that was originally posted on a PTR page returns an error while on the Live version, and vice versa.
The above issue also incidentally led me to another one: posting a PTR link on a "Live" page does not auto-parse correctly (despite several force-refreshes). Instead, it will still display the tooltip data but from a raw URL. (Mogu Runes of Fate [A])
However, this can be avoided if the page in question is both Live/PTR. I made a PTR link on a quest that is live, but not before switching to PTR mode first. Once that was done, I switched back to Live mode and the PTR link still auto-parsed correctly. (Mogu Runes of Fate [H])
I usually find WoWDB then click "WoWhead link" so I can view it in 3D
I think the Series info for The Darkspear Rebellion & related needs cleaning up. The quest chains for Horde and Alliance are actually not very similar. Either the series needs to be smart and only provide the chain for that faction* or display the appropriate faction in the quest tooltip or by the quest link.**
* Example: The Darkspear Rebellion is the Horde ID, so it lists...
- The Darkspear Rebellion
- Vol'jin of the Darkspear
- Battlefield: Barrens
- Battle of Sen'jin Village
- Battle of Razor Hill
whereas the Alliance side of things would list...
** Quests which have both an Alliance and Horde ID are easy to discern by multiple quests sharing the same list number (ex: 4. Vol'jin of the Darkspear, Vol'jin of the Darkspear) but it still doesn't inform a user. The only context that can be gleaned is from reading the quest tooltip itself, which can be hit-and-miss depending on the depth of the user's knowledge, or taking the time to open a new tab or window to examine the quest database article. If Horde and Alliance are going to be mixed together then it would be nice to include information that makes reading that particular article easier.
Example 1 (which is how Wowhead displays it and is also my first preference):
Or Example 2: just insert (Alliance) or (Horde) into faction-specific quest tooltips.

Ragnaros needs to be corrected. The NPC actually is in the game; it is the version which is summoned by Deathwing while the player is riding on Aronus. See the equivalent Wowhead page.

Kukuru's Kache Key is incorrectly spelled. It ought to be Kukuru's Cache Key. (Item name was probably changed at some point in one of the PTR builds.)
Also, Mist Dancer is actually named Jademist Dancer.
Edit: Nevermind, this will be fixed when the database does one last scan before patch 5.4 goes live.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this is occurring on ptr.wowdb.
Tabs for sorting boss loot drops by mode are behaving oddly. Disabled all extensions in Chrome Version 28.0.1500.95 m and still experiencing the problem. Switched to Firefox 23.0.1 (browser extensions enabled) and the problem went away. /shrug

Top is what I assume the appearance should be: nice space buffer on top and bottom.
Bottom is what sometimes happens. The buffer on the top and bottom is gone and causes the tabs to overlap the horizontal rule.
[Resolved] It's back.

Model Viewer feedback so far:
- Eye-glow on female Blood Elf is overpowering
- Male Blood Elf has closed eyes with a partial eye-glow showing through
- Modelviewer Forum link doesn't appear to be working. It shows a WoWDB logo, and clicking on that causes Chrome's scroll down/up bar to disappear on the page. (Version 29.0.1547.66 m, no extensions enabled)

Modelviewer isn't enabled on the forum just yet, one of those bugs I mentioned.
"Wowhead background is black and much more relaxing for the eyes to view compared to WowDB", as someone stated within the first few pages.
But honestly, I do not understand the need for another database.
