    constant problems with Youtube :(

So recently, last few months or so im having a really annoying issue with youtube, not always, but a lot of the time. basically when i change the quality of the video, it just wont buffer and the audio stops and the visuals go black, doesn't matter if change the quality up or down, even if i set it to 240p it wont play, and the only way to get the video the play is to refresh the page, and then it plays at 480p, and the same thing happens if i change quality.

ive tried clearing cache and all that, removed/disabled/updated all extentions i have, same thing, completely exit chrome and try again and still doesn't work. what does work is switching to firefox, so i think its an issue with chrome. ive got the latest version, so any ideas?

I really don't know if this will make any difference (let me know if it does,) but try running YouTube in flash instead of HTML5 (HTML5 is the default player for Chrome.) Personally, I can't stand the HTML5 player due to a lot of small issues that it comes up with for me. Mostly buffering releated.

For Chrome, you can install the YouTube Center Extension. It's probably one of the better YouTube tweaking extensions, as it comes with a load of things to tinker with. Before installing the YouTube Center script, you'll need the TamperMonkey extension (for installing the script.) After installing that, you can install the YouTube Center Userscript. When you visit YouTube with the script active for the first time, it will have a popup overlay introducing it and where to access it. From there, within its options you can change the player from HTML5 to Flash. There are some other really useful things in it as well, such as preventing that dreadful auto quality adjustment, video rating previews below video thumbnails, disabling auto play, and displaying country of origin to video uploaders / commenters.

You don't even need the Tampermonkey extension for Chrome. you can simply download the Youtube center extension and install it manually on Chrome. just enable the developer mode on your extensions page and drag&drop the extension in. https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki is where you find it.

although this extention messes with the player sizes, can't get them to be normal :\

Go to YouTube, and open the YouTube Center options.

And then click on the "Player" selection. From there, you can adjust the player type between Flash and HTML5. The extension auto saves changes made.

You can stop it from adjusting the size of the player by removing the check mark in "Enable Re-size." I thought that settings was disabled by default though...
    (Other YouTube extensions can interfere.)

Though I prefer the Large Player center aligned with a dark background so that I can see things better. The white background of YouTube was a bad idea since it can drown out darker videos.
