MSI R9 290 Optimal Fan Settings?

    Hey guys.

Installed my MSI R9 290 the other day and I absolutely love it so far.
One part that is confusing me though is the optimal fan settings to use in MSI Afterburner. Some insight into what settings you guys use would be useful!

This seems to be the default MSI settings and the fan speed seems to generally stick to 20-35% speed. I'm worried about this because in most reviews of the card they advised to stick it to 47%.

This is what I get when I select user define button, it usually goes from 40-58% fan speed then. Not sure which is optimal or safe for the longevity of the card. What settings do you guys use?

Bump, anyone any ideas? Would love to have some ease of mind before I start gaming again

63 c is the highest it goes? Thats pretty damn amazing.
If noise is an issue, then you could lower the fan speed. 75c 24/7 Is where I put mine after a couple hours of gaming, 35 % fan speed. Noise becomes an issue for me at 75 % though.

The temps vary. The card is apparently built to run normally at 95 degrees with low fan settings.

If I run Tomb Raider on setting 1 above then it will hit ~92 degrees. If I run it with setting two then it varies from 70-85 degrees.

It varies depending on the game, I tested Hawken for a half hour on setting 2 and it was hovering around 50-65 degrees.

It's now being idle with MSI fan settings 1 at 36 degrees but I'm looking more towards high end gaming.

Noise isn't too much of an issue since I usually play with a headset but I'm more looking at the lifespan of my card. I'm not great with these things but is it generally a bad thing to consistently play with high fan speeds on the card?

The card will just pull more energy, should not shorten the fans lifespan assuming you're not running higher than 75 % 24/7.
You'll just have to play intensive games like Tomb Raider and aim for a 75-78c after a couple of hours, just fiddle with the settings.

    Will do.

I had my fan on at around 47% last night and Crysis 2 on ultra (with DX11 patch and high res texture pack) stayed below 70 degrees over the course of a half hour so I was pretty happy with that.

47% fan speed wasn't too loud either so it seemed like a fine choice!

Seems perfectly fine, I'd just leave it as it is or just try to aim for lower noise. Anything under 75-80c I'd consider optimal for many years ahead.
