    [Shadow] Mind Sear rework(an Idea)

    How to make Mind Sear viable for AOE(only an idea)

    What i am thinking is make Mind sear work sorta like Rogues Blade Flurry; let me explain.

    "While active, your attacks also strike all additional nearby opponents for 30% of normal damage,
    but your Energy regeneration is reduced by 20%. Lasts until cancelled." - Rogue Blade Flurry


    Now with Shadow priest it should be something like this:

    "While active, your Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Death & Mind Spike also strike all additional nearby opponents(based on your current target) for x% of normal damage,
    Mind Spike no longer consumes Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word: Pain. Lasts until cancelled."


    Possible additions: "but your Mana cost of the mentioned spells is increased by x%." AND/OR "while active you cooldown of Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death is increased by x amount."

    The idea is that you toggle mind sear on/off for when you need to aoe heavy 4+/5+ targets or something like that.
    And while mind sear is active you can't use Mind Blast/Shadow Word: Death as often, so you only have Mind Sear on for aoe fights,
    otherwise its gonna be a dps loss hopefully.
    The increased mana part is not something im sure if it is necessary or not, but if it was then they way id imagine it would work would be like arcane mages charges.(From Arcane Blast(without the dmg increase)).

    People's thoughts of my idea; Remember its just an idea...

    We can improvise 30,000 different ways to improve Mind Sear from its current iteration but there's a very, very slim chance they're going to redesign the spell as is often suggested.

    Imo, it doesn't need anything more elegant than a % damage buff. If they simply put it back on par with the level it was for the latter part of MoP, I'll be the happiest SPriest in the world.

    Or they could just tweak the lvl90 talents to make them all useful in different scenarios; that atleast would be plausible during WoD.

    I am currently in love with how Monks have their healing set up. While X is being channelled, Z, Y, and C become instant cast. Mind Sear channels on the target while a dot, a heal or a damage spell can be cast instantly. Either the amount of damage dealt is decreased, mana increased, only allowed to cast one instant spell per channel. I'm sure there are other ways to make it not super OP, but I think bringing the 'cast a spell while casting a spell' to a DPS class would be certainly different and intriguing as well.

    Devs said the worry was in mind sear vs mind flay... I say just get rid of mind sear, make mind flay aoe/cleave and it'll be easier to balance. (And make a minor glyph to get rid if the aoe for pvp, etc)

    That or make Mind Sear spread SW:P

    Rather than Mind Sear buffs, Spriests should be campaigning for a more interactive AoE rotation, probably involving Shadow Orb usage.

    They aren't going to let Mind Sear spam be amazing AoE. It's way too brainless. Let it be a filler as part of a more robust priority list.

    They stated they're worried that if they increase mind sear too much, people will start using it instead of Mind Flay. After all of the questionable shit this game has gone through in the last 6 months or so, this comment made me seriously question who the hell is in charge of tuning since Ghostcrawler left.

    Most of you have seen these suggested before but I'm just gonna outline them again.

    Ideally both could be implemented if they got the tuning right.

    Solution 1:

    Let Mind Sear scale with mastery and buff the base dmg % a bit as well. It would make sense since our other "Mind [Insert Spellname]" abilities scale with mastery. Flay, Blast and Spike.

    Solution 2:
    What could be done in addition to the above or perhaps as a solution (albeit a bad standalone solution imo) is to let Mind Sear be a part of the Insanity talent. Simply let the Insanity buff change our Mind Sear into a 100% buffed version of the same spell. Call it something cool, Hysteria, Psychosis, Mania, Mental Disorder, Delusion, Derangement or Madness. It doesn't matter much but it would add some fun interaction with an existing talent and it could let us have decision in when we want to buff our AoE by pooling up Orbs for it.


    Neither of these changes require much rework on how things are working as of now. The latter one might be too much of a mechanic change for a hotfix or w/e. I'm unsure of how realistic either of these changes are at this point. It does not seem to be a big concern for blizz and it's okay to have some distinct niches for different specs. If they don't want SP's to AoE I would much rather see them remove Mind Sear entirely and state that they are trying to get away from some of the homogenization of the specs.

    With that being said I miss being powerful on several targets opposed to just one but that's just personal preference.
