Zen Sphere Detonation Bug

I've posted this on the Bug Forums this morning about this, but would like the input of the MMO-Champ Community as well.

Seeing as Zen Sphere is shaping up to be the highest ST DPS talent in it's tier in patch 6.1, I decided to test it out and work on my usage of it. What I discovered reads as pretty odd to me, and I'm not sure if it's intentional.

First, here are the logs:

My goal was to maintain as much uptime on ZS on two targets as I could. I used it on CD on both myself and a Druid raider in my guild, Sylvandras. As you can see from the logs, I had near 100% uptime on ZS on both targets, but it was not detonating 'properly'. There was a decent percent of ZS that were not detonating when they expired. It's also worth mentioning that we tested and it will detonate 100% if someone drops below 35% health, regardless of the last detonation timer.

Is this a bug? Is there something I'm missing?

It's a bug, it's been this way since WoD beta but they never fixed it.

"is now not recommended" implies that it was recommended at one point. I dunno why everyone suddenly started saying that ZS was the best for dps this weekend, without anything having changed.

Well, given how much damage it did before the change, even with the bug it ends up ahead - but the bug is a pain.

The only thing I haven't found a reliable number is the % of 'bugged' casts - it would be nice to know whether casting it deliberately on both tanks instead of yourself is actually a dps gain - potentially losing ticks, in exchange for higher % of successful detonations when they yoyo their hp up and down.

It hasn't been explicitly recommended, but it is being used in the 6.1 SimCraft build, which I think would indicate that it's the highest DPS gain.

what really bugs me is that when you use Zen Sphere on cooldown it never explodes. you have to watch the buff and not the cooldown...really annoying.

I just have two keybinds for it. One of them I put on myself, and the other on a melee I trust. This way you get more damage out of it and don't have to worry about overwriting your own. You can literally use it on CD, first on you, then on them, repeat.
