I was / am friends with some people from newcastle. It's not too far away, but definitely out of visiting range. I've met them once in person only, and it was many years ago. They, and one of them in particular, are probably some of the best friends i've had in my entire life, I've known them since I was like 15, so going on 10 years now. We used to voice chat and stuff all the time, we'd split the costs of a ventrilo server or whatever between us and just chat like all day every day. All through school, every evening, every school holiday, every weekend. Spent so much time with them. Every single one of them is an asshole and if I knew them in person and saw them regularly, we probably wouldn't be friends. But the fact that you can engage on your terms you know, if you fancy chatting, you can go on skype or vent or TS or whatever, chat as long as you like, and leave whenever you like. It's not like if you go hang out together you're like "out together as a group" and you feel compelled to stay together or whatever. It makes a lot of really cool friendships possible.
My alliance toons in WoW have been in the same guild for the last 6-7 years and we had a rapport like that, which I'd like to think was unusual for a raiding guild that could actually down competitive content :/ In regards to server competition at least. It sounds silly but it's the friendships that kept me playing the game for so long...one or two of them were like how you described. It's possible to truly connect with someone online, and the relationships can be as meaningful as any real-life friendship.

Well what I said wasn't actually what I thought but rather a projection of your own desire to project to me what you wanted me to believe due to your obviously sinister ulterior motives.

You left out some more important questions you can ask! My favourite opener that never fails: "So, do you like music?"

You are showing your true colors here, the fact you think having a marriage based on mutual interests is somehow juvenile? not to mention it obviously transcends wow, wow was just the catalyst.. just as if you meet somebody at a bar and a song comes on and you both find out you are really into said band..

your life must be very devoid of meaning for you to feel so bitter. I sense somebody managed to get friendzoned even online..
