PROJECT ECHELON is finally having some light shown on it (GCHQ/NSA spying)

For anyone who hasn't heard of it before - PROJECT ECHELON is a automated system run from GCHQ which is used to intercept and analyse personal and commercial correspondence from various local and international sources (mostly NSA). It's a part of the UK intelligence system and has been running for nearly 50 years now (but some estimates put it developed as far back as 1947) although the UK government and the NSA have always denied its existence. The Snowdon leaks confirmed it's existence, purpose and that it is directly funded by the NSA.

Right now one of the main investigative journalists (Duncan Campbell - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunc...l_(journalist)) who's been working on uncovering ECHELON for the last 30years is doing a series of articles and documentaries to present the majority of his findings and appears to have the backing of senior UK intelligence chiefs. Hopefully this means we can actually get a proper look into how a modern nation manages its automated spy systems for once.

ECHELON was confirmed to still be running in 2010, it's current status is unknown.

The first article in the series is available here

Finally. I'd come across this article recently (http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2...-whistleblower) and was surprised by how little attention it had received. Like I consider myself at least fairly up to date on current events and stuff but this had somehow totally managed to slip under the radar. Now to read the articles you posted and despair.

I remember these things in the 90's. The problem with that is there was a clear lack of caring from the general public, as the Internet wasn't even broadband, and most people didn't even use the net.

Almost all private information is on the net, due to social media, people are being concerned. Rightfully so, but ignorantly used. People have been saying since the 70s and 80s the government is keeping track. They failed to listen, and now are reaping. Honestly, none of this is surprising.

Fucking, A. I remember the UO debacle, when we found out through UOTrace, that our information was funneling through unknown servers and off the map packet losses. When asked Origin didn't know, and within 3-4 weeks the "lag" was fixed but still funneling.

You can bet without a doubt, you are on a list of some type. Weird porn fetishes, drug use, household chem usage, any DIY website that uses chems, any DIY computer website, any social media, and any gaming formula that uses Internet transmissions to communicate.

While you might not ping the radar, the radar can read you. It just has to be tuned to listen to you.
