How much gear can DWF and BoS Unholy can share?

    Hello guys!

Well, right now I'm ilvl 711 DWF, and I'm thinkin on using UH as offspec and see how is it. I saw that both spects use mastery/multistrike (frost) and multi/mastery (BoS UH), so they must be able to share one set of gear for both right? Aside from obvius things like weapon and trinklets ofc. Have to mention that im doing mostly heroic HFC, and not that interested on min-maxing or topping the charts, just want to be functional with both specs.

Right now I won't go UH since I don't have a good 2h, but I hope to get one this weekend.

Soo, what do you think? it's possible to perform good enough in both specs with one gear set? or it's really necesary to swap a lot of pieces from one to another?.

Oh, and if someone is interested in checking my gear, will have to search for "Randgriz" in US-Ragnaros, since I'm new (posting) in mmochamp, and cant post links.

PS: English is not my main language. Excuse me for any mistake

To keep things short, it won't be a significant DPS loss to use one set for both. It's not optimal but you're talking one off set piece, jewelry and gemming/enchants. Trinkets are probably the biggest difference so try and get the correct ones for each spec if you can.

I mostly main a blood DK, so maybe I'm wrong?

Wouldn't stat priorities be way off on those two specs? From what I've seen, my Blood gear mostly shares decently with Unholy, but when I'm trying to put together Frost gear, a lot of pieces get changed over. I find I'm better served getting more +Mastery gear for Frost, while the Multistrike gear I already have with Blood tends to go well with Unholy.

Multi is UH's best single target stat but Mastery is it's best AoE stat so it's more swings and roundabouts than just a straight up DPS loss.

Multistrike is Unholy's best stat, no matter single target or AoE. Simulations show this, parses show this, and top unholy DK's go for only multistrike.

Not because its better on AoE but because theres not a single fight in hfc where we AoE long enough to make mastery worth it over multistrike except maybe gorefiend.

Mastery only shine on sustained AoE but that doesnt exist anymore with ring and crazy item level everything die in 5 seconds. Its a very situational stat, depends on your raid ilvl and comp, if no one else is AoEing except the dk then mastery might be better.

Same tiers, neck, wrists, gloves, boots, ring. and then there are different trinket combos for both speccs

I can't remember the post but someone was talking about how you can get a higher MS %, giving you more MSticks, and that damage added up to being more than the extra base shadow damage

i meant someone actually did the math to prove that the damage from multistrike ticks outweighed the increased damage from Mastery, when the amount of MS/MA was the same

Mastery is only purely better on sustained SPREAD AoE.

even clumped up AoE gains more from Multi because Blood Boil can still proc necrosis.

so the two Scenario i can think of is M Blast Furnace since your running NP and only want the base spread from 1 BB instead of spamming BB
and Kormrok from M BRF as well again the goal is to maintain a high stack of NP on very spread targets.

Necrosis for average dmg per tick is about 11k for a 745 UHDK and NP max stack Tick at the same Ilvl is around 24.5k-26k

Necrosis ticks gained from BB spam on close target AoE is the equivalent of a NP + 42% additional mastery.

so for every single fight Multi > mastery. Unless you find a fight with 20+ adds that are spread out over like a 50yrd space that would make NP the only viable option with a FS priority.
