If I don't buy legion, can I still play wow?

I just don't like the way pvp works in legion, so don't play to upgrade to it
question is, if I just pay subscription without Legion expansion, can I still play wow? will it be like old Wod with honor/conquest? how does it work for level 100?

    thanks

As far as I know, you'll be level capped at 100, unable to obtain any quests pertaining to The Broken Isles (but you can visit them through a portal/summon).

That means no access to post 100-gated content of any kind which includes all the quests, dungeons and raids.

All features that unlock with the prepatch will be available to you.
Soothing Mist:"Healing them for a minor amount every 0.5 sec, until you take any other action."
Jade Serpent Statue: "The statue will also begin casting Soothing Mist on your target. healing for 50% as much as yours. "
    [What's half of minor?]
"Statue casts Soothing Mist at a nearby ally for toddler healing."

You can, technically, but the vast majority of PvPers will be moving on to the 110 bracket and leveling up, and you'll no longer have any of them to PvP with- the scene will be very dead. Additionally, as with every expansion, system changes will still apply whether you upgrade or not, so you'll be affected by all the class changes.

However, the new Honor system is only available at 110, so you won't be subject to that. I'm just not sure it's going to be an enjoyable way to play, with 99% of other players, aside from people battleground-leveling through 100 for some reason, having moved on to Legion content.

As above, you'll be locked to level 100, won't be able to enter the new zones, but you will receive all class changes coming with the expansion- this may be undesirable due to the integration with Artifact weapons with class mechanics and balance, as they will not be available to you.

I only enjoy playing pvp, so to be more specific, can I play BG as it's now, or I just can't play at all if BG will use new mechanic of Legion?

I don't have an exact answer, but assuming that it's the same as what happened in Cata and Mists when the new expansions came out, there will be a new 100-109 bracket, and 110 will have its own bracket.

It also, again, won't be "old fashioned." You will still be playing with all of the class and spec reworks, but with none of the new PvP talents to balance the game, nor with Artifact weapons to make the specs work as intended. I really wouldn't recommend it.

While I'm not sure the PVP talent system is going to require Legion to function (correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to know), you're dead on about the Artifact. Not having one is going to be like removing an entire pre-WoD Spellbook's worth of passives and a talent row.

PVP talents unlock on max level, ie. 110, so it'll require Legion.

    Game is dead, uninstalling.

Seriously though, that seems kind of silly with WoW's 10+ year history of twinks.

When the pre expansion patch hits, the class changes will take effect. When the expansion actually launches, it is my assumption that the changes you are not happy about to the reward system will be applied, regardless of whether you have the expansion or not.

For example, when Cataclysm launched and Emblems of Frost/Triumph/etc were not longer rewarded to buy level 80 epics, players who didn't purchase Cataclysm would earn Justice points, not Emblems of Frost.

At the moment, we know that the Honor system (and therefore, the talents) will only be available at 110. https://twitter.com/warcraftdevs/sta...05181177720832

If we've heard something more recent that I've missed, let me know!

Can you still play? Yes, minus the increased level cap and legion areas/dungeons/raids.

I am willing to bet that all the PvP systems will be scaled to legion standard though. Basically, stop trying to fight it. Either adapt or leave the game. Afraid theres no other way.

I will bet there will be tons of players (could be even millions) who won't upgrade to legion, for those, I hope blizzard will allow them to play BG and get paid subscription, no need to abandon them and lose a chunk of revenue

    Buy the expansion.

The amount of people who stay behind is negligible. Game becomes a ghost town.

Not exactly sure what is so bad about talents.
It was never Hardcore Vs Casual. It was Socialites Vs. Solo players

Of course you can still do BGs. However, as others have said, it'll be just like doing it at any other sub-max-level bracket: you'll be missing abilities, classes won't be tuned appropriately, and, most importantly, your queues will likely be very long.

    Considering...

I doubt there will be millions who aren't here for Legion.
