So we're in a technologic age. Are pen pals still a thing? I had one when I was a kid. Did you guys have one?

Pen pals are still a thing, just different. Pen pals are now the people you keep up with on forums, social media, in games. Communicate happens in real time or at least messages are available in real time instead using the postal service. I think we had pen pals in elementary but we also barely write anything that was legible.

My mother tried to get me to sign up for a pen pal, and I wasn't into it at all. I never understood why I'd want to share intimate details with someone they never met/really knew.
I had toast today, it's warm and sunny, I won a soccer game. I got a dog last week. (Ironically none of these are true today).
I'd write letters to family when I had to, and on holidays. I just don't see the point anymore. If I want to talk or share info, I will call them. I see people asking for pen pals occasionally, but the idea seems silly, but I don't see facebook as pen pals, unless you add random strangers to your Facebook.
When i was younger, i used to have about 6 or 7 of them, it used to be really exciting waiting for a letter pop through the door with my name on it, most of my pals were from japan as we'd exchange gifts every 2 months or so...
Now it seems the only letters i get through the post with my name is from people with the last name "bill" and they're always asking for money, yet i can't remember starting up a friendship with electricity bill, gas bill, phone bill.
