Hit Rating and other Cat DPS Variables

With the addition of Omen of Clarity scaling off our auto-attacks, I thought I'd link a couple of numbers to watch out for.

@ Level 80 We will want to aim @ 295~296 hit rating in order to maximize the amount of these procs that can happen. The addition of haste may also increase the amount of procs; but as we all know, attacking every second, haste doesn't benefit us all that much.
The agility to critical strike chance ratio has been nerfed substantially. Several theory crafters over at EJ have said that it is best to attain a certain level of crit % chance, then to pursue pure strength to maximize our melee strength.

what lvl of crit might that be? At lvl 80 and at lvl 70 also.

At level 70, current values are useless to say the least. This expansion is designed for gameplay around level 80. I currently stand at 55% crit chance fully raid buffed (agility stacker). But it is safe to say to stack agility upto a point where you get a 40% chance to crit, fully raid buffed then pursue strength.

    around 40% at lvl 80?

Im around 55% crit at lvl 70 too pre 3.0. Was kind of wondering if its okay to leave my agi-stacking as-is after 3.0 or if I might have to replace some with str.

You have to remember you are at 55% at the end of raiding from TBC. The game would have little point if you kept scaling with percentages into level 80, or I for one would have an easy time tanking with 62% dodge. Picture your numbers at tier 4 level and thats what you should expect from the beginning tier of Naxxramas etc.

ya, I figure that was the biggest reason for the agi nerf for crit and dodge in the first place. I'm already 70-80% dodge-tanking and 55-60% crit-dps in a raid. It'd be kind of silly getting those %s maxed (or close to) 100 at 80.

KK No worries. Just taking things from a logical PoV.

Thats fun to play with. Is it possible to change stats? I would like to lose the haste and try more ap etc.

:Edit: After playing with it for a while I'm getting around 4k dps sustained and 5.5k if beserk is up.

I've been keeping mangle and rake up close to 100% of the time.

Mangle > SR > Rake > Shred / Rake to 5 cp > wait > Rip (b4 sr runs out) > Mangle > SR etc etc etc. Keep Mangle and Rake up all the time and DON'T USE FB.

Just wanted to insert (since this thread seems to contain mostly people with brains ). At the OP, haste has a uniform effect on white DPS no matter how fast you're attacking pre-haste. The fact that you have a 1s base attack speed has no effect on the importance of haste. What you want to consider is how much of your DPS is made up for white hits vs how much is made up of yellow attacks and bleeds.

I've not played a feral outside of leveling, but my feeling is that white damage is a fairly small contributor to total damage (guessing 30-35%?). If that was the case, you'd still be correct that it's a weak stat to stack, but it's not because of the 1s attack speed.

Also, that tool is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Can't use it at work though, it probably looks too much like playing a game...and posting on forums is OK? >.>
    Main: Enhance Shaman
    Current alt status:

I participated in the legendary Bacon thread.

Hit the nail on the head. Rogues scale so well with haste because their main damage is whites. For us.. most of our damage is yellow and haste does not effect that. We are better off getting a certain crit level (55% buffed (?)) and then stack str for ap.
