    Wanting to switch to MM...

    Here's my armory link - http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sh...and&cn=Theomar

I've cleared FoS for a total of 51 times now, and I've only seen the trinket drop twice!
I doubt that I can re-socket to ArP without the trinket and put out good numbers, DPS wise.

Currently I cap at 10k DPS with my Survival spec and I finish most fights at 8k DPS.

What I want to know is, if it's possible to switch to MM by re-socketing everything to ArP, without the trinket.
Or if I should wait to get the trinket first.

I want to switch to MM cause I most Hunters at my gear level are MM : /

    Help is appreciated

I hear you. The trinket has yet to dro for me while playing my hunter. The dagger has dropped like 20 something times but no trinket. As for your dps, you are doing better numbers than my MM does. But you are also prolly, better geared and better hunter player than I am. I usually do around 6-7kish as MM.

Honestly, surv does some mean dps. At this point your gear is optimized very nicely for surv and you'd be shooting yourself in the foot to just sweep over to MM.

I think the typical routine is that when you can reach 800 ArPen without gems, you're ready to gem ArPen for the hardcap. Get any ArPen upgrades you can, but keep gemming for Agi. If you get the trinket, softcapping (without gems) is still decent as surv. Otherwise just build a different set of ArPen gear for MM because there are fights where surv > mm (such as saurfang).

I don't think anything I've said is blatantly wrong but let's see what other people say, I don't actually have a lvl 80 hunter, but I try to keep up with the joneses.

I suggest you try dualspeccing MM, read some guides on how it's done and visit a dummy in some major city and practise with it. I think you will do higher dps with MM than with Surv at your gear level without any Arp gemming at all.

and even if you got the trinket from FoS I would not suggest softcapping and using it as the uptime on it is like 10%.

With your gear you can go higher in DPS as MM

Hmm okay, thanks for all the tips so far.

I'll just switch to my second specc and see what Agi MM has to offer with my gear.
I'll try getting some ArP gear and gem that with ArP. I've saved up a lot of gold to be able to make switches and whatnot, so I'll see what I can do.

    Thanks ^^

As others have pointed out survival is not a bad spec. I am mm, while the other hunter in my guild is survival, and very close to me in gear level (we go back and forth, but no more than 100 points in GS separate us at any given time). That being said. on every fight in icc we are racing for top damage, along with a couple mages.

As long as you play survival right, and I dont mean just knowing the rotation; I mean knowing the situational things that come from playing a spec for a long time. You can do just as much damage as marksman...

I've been SV before it was buffed, meaning when BM was OP at the start of WotlK.
I've gotten used to it, but I've also played MM at times, so I know how to play both specs.

I'll check what's what on the dummies.

I've been Survival since Molten Core :P

But as said before gather two sets of gear, since MM is only really good on those single target fights such as Festergut and Blood-Queen

I've just done some DPS tests on the dummies as MM Agi and I kept a steady 6k whilst I had 5.8k as Survival.

I've got ICC 25 tonight and I'll see what'll happen there

Re: Wanting to switch to MM...

The difference between surv and MM is that one is based around spells AND physical dmg (surv) and the other is almost purely based around physical dmg (MM).
The reason why ppl gem arpen as very high geared MMers is that arpen is godlike for all physical attacks which MM is. Since u cant benefit from the full use of arpen with surv (because arpen doesnt work for spells like explosive shot) is why ppl dont gem arpen for surv. gemming arpen is strickly for MM use only and only if u are 60%+ arpen. Dont get me wrong its not like MM doesnt exsist before that. Gemming agil for MM before u hav enough passive arpen is perfectly viable for any raid.
Also having 2p t10 is godlike for MM.
See if anyone who doesnt know wat im talking about can figure it out by themselves (took me a while).
Also wen u get enough passive arpen and start stacking it... get ur FD ready cause ur about to hit aggro city, population YOU!

You could probably go MM now should you choose it, but I would suggest waiting until you can use t10 helm, chest, gloves, and shoulders. If you have access to the Lady Deathwhisper pants, get them. If not try to find some other pants with ArP on them. Other than that, you should be fine for switching.

Also if you can, try to get the 10 man HM Thorim trinket, it's better than NES imo.

So I did some work for you and Female Dwarf says you'd do tons more as MM.
http://femaledwarf.com/ It's a hunters best friend easy to use too, spend like 5min with it and you won't have to ask the forums what you should do.

Re: Wanting to switch to MM...

My mm hunter is almost at a 6k GS if you use the mod, and im a prime example that you can do sick dps still even if you dont have the arp for MM. im pulling average 9-10k dps on most boss fights in icc 10man and 25man. just need to replace a few peices with the ArP gear that has not dropped for me yet. but it is still a big dps upgrade to go MM even with agil gems if you dont have the right ArP yet to make mm even better. im at 680 Arp passive and i dont use a arp trinket because im gemmed agil so i benefit more from the other procs than i would from the arp proc. so its best to switch to mm, get good at it, and then as you get more arp gear it only gets better and eventually you can gem arp and be a god.
