Why not queue for rated BGs?

When I first heard that they were going to make rated BGs I was pretty excited. I thought, FINALLY! Blizzard is going to do something about the players in BGs that are: AFK, solo charge into 6 opposing players every time they rez, and people that try to chase down that healer they can’t kill for more than half the fight while others are actually trying to complete the BG objectives.

Don’t get me wrong. People pay their money to play this game just like I do and they can do whatever they want with their time. I just don’t want to be forced to do something (BGs for honor with the mentioned people) to get better gear just so I can do something I like with an acceptable level of success (arena, duels, and world PvP).

I was hoping that the rated BGs would be just like BGs now, except everyone would get a rating and match making value added like arena and get matched into random teams of people with like values. Value would go up if you win and down (maybe at a lower amount) if you lose. I don’t see why this is a bad thing.

It looks like now we will only be getting the option of making premades to do rated BGs.

My server (Aegwynn) is not high in population, only a small percentage of the people seem to care about PvP at all despite being a PvP server, and of that small percentage only half of them have any real skill in PvP. What that means is getting a “good” group of people together to do a rated BG will be very hard. The nightmare of having to put these groups together and manage them is just awful.

I can see it now, people dropping after 1 BG and then having to wait 30 minutes to replace them, to only have to replace another because it took so long to replace the other person. Before you tell me I’m wrong, I can say this happens when we currently try to pug raids on Aegwynn. I see trade littered with LFM spam for the same group for long periods of time.

Not to mention that this is going to directly compete with the PUG raids and new heroic PUGs. Though there aren’t as many heroic PUGs because you CAN queue for them now. Thank you, Blizz for the heroic queue. I am being serious when I say that it saved the PvE side of the game for me. Without the rated BG queue I can see trade filled with LFM because a group needs another healer in their rated BG group because they lost one because the healer’s guild decided they needed him for a raid or heroic.

So why would you not just make it to where a player or small group of players can queue for a rated BG and get matched with players of around the same value? I don’t know the programming involved, but I’m sure it could be done. You have to already do this with matching team vs. team matches right? You’re not just going to let the high skilled / geared players just stomp a freshly dinged 85 group, right?

Rated BGs sound like they will be like raids. PuGs fall apart and you have to look for 1 more or just run with 1 man down. But if you want success you form a guild and have a team + spares to run with.
As for the queue system you suggest: It will destroy non-rated BGs and a guild team with a plan will always beat a randomly assembled bunch of people with equal skill.

I have no doubt that a guild that does BGs together will own a random group, but isn't there already a function in BGs to match random groups vs. random group and premades vs. premades? I think not requiring premades would help people who have time constraints still be able to get in their rated BGs each week. I have a hard enough time getting 2 other people together once a week to do 3s. Think of the number of times you might hear people you normally do rated BGs say "OMG I can't believe you already did your BGs without me."

Is destroying non-rated BGs a bad thing? I would think most people don't like being in BGs were other people don't care if they win or lose. Still I don't think it will kill them. After you have capped your arena marks for the week you will probably do non-rated BGs. You probably will need to farm honor marks to get gear to do rated BGs and arena.

    whats wrong with that?

Suicide can be a valid tactic. Like in wsg, one guy running into an oncoming charge; only to be killed by 5 horde. well that's 5 less people in their FC escort. If you have guys Defending, thats 5 less people to deal with. drawing the attention of multiple enemies to distract them from a real threat is a good thing...

On strand, when the yellow gate is being choked, I run in and cut hard left. however many horde want to chase me, its that many less on the demos coming in behind me.

I take it you're one of the people who thinks southern GY in SotA is always bad to capture as well?

Because you only need to queue as a group, but there is no real team behind the queue. Whereas in Arena you will need to setup a team and build up the ratings of that team. Their current plan for rated BG is to allow for a group of 10,15,25 to queue for the respective BG. Also on top of that, if you were to be randomly matched for your group, the majority of the success of your group is highly dependant in who you're placed with, more or less RNG, which would be terrible.

Roangut, what you said isn't really what I was thinking. I was thinking more like 6 Horde at blacksmith inside AB and 1 (read: 1) guy even remotely close to it runs in every time he is alive to solo all 6 of them while we need him to defend the 3v4 going on at ST making it 4v4. Capping south GY in SotA is situational, but sometimes a good move.

The RNG of random BGs might be a bit of a pain. If you could still queue with a premade team and/or queue as a single person would you care then? I can see this as a way to getting in all your rated BGs for the week if your group had to log.
