How did Blizzard manage to screw up Engineering like this?

Rocket boosts used to be great.. Now they fail over half of the times, and it has several times in a BG given me a debuff that brings my hp from 100 to 0.. WTF?

have you checked your combat log to see if an actual debuff is put on you?

Also, what level are you? On my lvl 80 toon with engineering my rocket boost only fails about 15% of the time, i'm beginning to think that the failures are based on level and has been retuned for level 85 now. I'm hoping that this is the case and once we are level 85, rocket boots will be reliable again and work 100% of the time.

There is no debuff, and in a way, Blizzard balanced it because being able to get away most of the time every three minutes is a bit unfair, and it makes sense since engineering isn't very reliable.
I reported lamb of log twice, once for having a slow car and once for trolling.

Yeah, there's no point. They can kill you and your entire raid now.

Rocket boosts have 2 failures now.
1, the old launch you into the sky.
2, the new 15% max hp lost every second for 8seconds. (aka 120%, seems it's affected by resilience)

Oh god, I hope not. I became an engineer BECAUSE of the malfunctions. When I got a malfunction on my boots a good while ago, launching me into the air, I was effing stoked. I had no idea the boots COULD malfunction, and so I started using the boots whenever they came off cooldown, but have not seen the malfunction since.

Engineering should NEVER be reliable. It's all about the screw ups, man!

Occasional malfunctions are fun. More malfunctions than functions aint.

Wow, so having Engineering can actually be a detriment now.
If Blizzard really didn't want people to use the profession, why keep it in? Seriously.

I like the malfunction that shoots you into the air. that works out better than speeding forward for me. No good rogue engineer should go into battle without a parachute on his cloak. add some stealth to this, and bam. you have an assassin who just lived to kill another day.

The second debuff should only proc in a BG/Arena. Let's be honest here, engineering isn't a popular profession at the moment and Blizzard needs to help give people a reason to chose it other than for a hog/chopper & the flying mount.

Because engineering itself is ALL BASED AROUND ON THING ?(Belt Boost)
You know you actually got engi enchants only giving both increased haste for x amount of seconds on a 60sec cooldown, random enchants for example on back 22agility and stuff.

but no no you should be the most OP prof there is out there.
The perfumed* boys he wrapped in chains and threw into the sea. They were unnatural creatures, and the ship smelled better once cleansed of their presence.

This is the debuff you get: Rocket Fuel Leak

Are you kidding me? 15%HP lost every second? Madness.

Increasing malfunction rate is udnerstandable, but this is way overboard. If you're going to complain about balance, then how about making potions heal less so they're not as dependable in a fight? I'll tell you why:
    A) It's a fucking stupid idea.
    B) The point in using them is low enough to where you're better off without them.

Engineering revolves around utility. Other professions are huge money makers, others make great gear. Punishing an Engineering component for being USEFUL in its intended field makes as much sense as taking away from any of the other professions. If you're going to balance it, don't keep it from benefiting the user. Make it so the malfunction is still there, but its not going to cost you the fight just because of it.

Except that the cloak enchants do not give stats anymore, its slowfall or nothing.

There's no more stats on engineering items now. Just the use effects - and the haste is a rather low quantity for the downtime it has, and the tazer is severely underpowered. Engineering is a dead profession as far as pve and pvp go right now, unless this gets fixed by Cata endgame.

Since I'm going goblin for the expansion anyways, looks like it may be time to drop engineering in favor of something else.

As someone of the official forums said:

Which kind of puts them on par with what most other professions offer - a single personal boost of some sort. Not fun, no. But given how many PvPers took engineering for the number of extra benefits available, I know I'm personally not surprised at the change.

So where's my flask with extra stats? Or chance to get a mount that most people won't have?

Sure, Engineering had many benefits. But those benefits came at a cost. You couldn't do the things that any of the other professions did. And on top of that, Engineering isn't very profitable.

The exchange going on here when you choose Engineering is fun versus functional.

Other professions offer utility and some form of reinbursement. With Engineering, it was all the different tinkering stuff.

You think a bunch of 4 hour cooldowns and 1 tinker is "acceptable?" They're useful, but they don't provide me anything but ease of access benefits, which aren't balanced out by the fact I can't make money from the profession.

I don't understand what blizzard was thinking of giving the debuff of taking all my health off for trying to use nitro boots.
Engineering is straight up garbage now. It pains to me see that I'm a grand master at giving myself a debuff that K'Os me.
