Random tip and something group leaders should tell their group.

Turn off the damage meters, boy, it doesn't matter that you can do 11k DPS, it matters if you can do 10k DPS and make the group not get overwhelmed.

His sig does say he plays a paladin, so it's not actually his fault.

I think he has a point to an extent. Many times in the past have I, personally, been in raids where 2 or 3 more dps are more focused on topping charts instead of watching fight mechanics leading to either them dying, which they deserved, or worse, wiping the raid. At the same time however dps charts have their place, a little competition is healthy and promotes players to better themselves. Also there are times where its one players dps that is holding back an entire raid group from being able to clear a boss.

tell them to use skada, so it will switch to threat meter during fights and only show damage meter out of combat

I concur. Whether or not someone utilizes damage meters is irrelevant. Decent players do the minimum. Good players try to do more. Great players constantly strive to excel and improve. That excellence is an amalgam of DPS and other personal performance. Striving to maximize DPS is ONLY a flaw when it is done to the detriment of other priorities. Honestly, you shouldn't give a rat's ass if someone is reading their combat log word for word as long as they aren't screwing anything else up as a result.

    Probably true.
The only reason to tell someone to turn off their meter is if they are too busy watching it/ flexing their epeen because of how high their damage is and they don't get out of the fire/pillar/poison/adds/group/whatever the gimmick on the fight is.

I keep my damage meter open as the raid leader to see if anyone is under performing so they can be rotated out.

for 5 man dungeons guess we have no choice, but for raid dps, if they not doing their job , the god of WOL will hit them with the hammmerz!
