    Build Help

This will be the 1st computer I actually build and I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to parts. I'm looking at a $2500 budget for a full build to last me quite a few years before I have to start upgrading again. I'm pretty much trying to be able to run anything out today or coming out this year in respectable settings. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Full List | Price by Merchant

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (329.98 @ OutletPC)

    Optical: LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer (70.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Rosewill BlackHawk ATX Mid Tower Case (89.99 @ Newegg)
    Price: $1525.85
(Prices include discounts/promos as of today)

Note: The site tells me there is a possible compatibility issue with the cooler and the case but cannot be confirmed. Can anyone confirm this and if a new tower needs to be picked I'm open for suggestions.

I'd probably restart this system from the top down. Unless there's a specific reason, an i5-4670K will do. 2x4 of 1600/1866... No need for 16gb or 4 sticks.. and 1333 is behind the times.. That large a PSU, nor gold, are needed. I don't think the Red is the best option (Green is cheaper). Unless you have an amazing sound system, I'd skip the audio card, most are pretty good these days. And do you need a Blu-Ray writer?

As I've said, my knowledge in this department is pretty non-existent which is why things may look weird. Those i5's, will they still be a viable option perhaps 5yrs down the road or will I want an i7? Yeah I probably don't really need 16gb of ram I just threw the 2nd in there for a possible option. I have no clue of the wattage for the psu needed to run such a system so I blindly picked the 750w. I don't need a Blu-Ray writer it just seemed like a good price with the full combo.

i7 is kind of like 4 Wheel Drive.. it has a use, but most people wont use it, and having it wont make your car any more effective going to work years from now. Hyperthreading is largely something not useful to gaming and wont be any time soon.

You can easily knock off another $150-200 by remiving the cound card and going down to the i5-4670k, and still have a monster. Alternatively, you can remove the cooler and put some of that money into getting an AIO liquid cooler, such as the Corsair H100i.

tenangrychickens, much appreciated with that build. However, per your recommendations I'd rather not try to play with liquid cooling as a complete beginner in this department. I do have a question though, the site shows estimated wattage at 438w. Is the 550w suitable or should go higher to like 600?

Honestly, I'd get the RM650, as yes, the RM550 is a little too small for long-term usage. And the cooling is highly optional, but recommended as it's almost free performance.
