It strikes one additional time for 50% weapon damage, not whirlwind damage. Bladestorm functions the same way. Still free damage, but not overly strong.
No it doesn't. It deals 50% of the damage from the hit that triggered it, which is a huge difference from 50% weapon damage. Yes, it works with Whirlwind, but no, it won't chain off of every target hit, it will only proc once per ability cast for one additional strike, regardless of how many targets Bladestorm or Whirlwind hits.
Nope, it works like Artunias said. For BS and WW, it's a single 50% WD hit that isn't dependent on the damage you actually did with any of your WW or BS hits. It's this spell ID: http://www.wowhead.com/spell=26654/sweeping-strikes and shows up as a different damage source on logs.
