i tried werewolf and its kinda meh, sure u get to run around and melee ppl and eat them but thats pretty much it. in exchange u dont get the sleeping rested bonuses. i dont think either of the paths have been fleshed out very well, especially compared to the various other side quests in the game.

I hate skyrim's vamparism, it's better than oblivion because it doesn't overwrite your facial customization and the eyes look somewhat intimidating now, but it's just not worth having to take the time to find someone sleeping to feed off of, and the game encourages not feeding to gain power, but when you're at your strongest, you're kill on sight to everyone but the dark brotherhood (this is actually a step down from a oblivion, just shunning you was better, in my opinion)

Compare to a werewolf, where the only losses are a very minor stat gain from sleeping, a lore excuse for why it's bad (that may or may not even be bad depending on the infectee) for the ability to become increadibly strong, gain access to four very cool new finishers, and if you don't want to transform, it's completely optional.

Werewolf because of immunity to disease.

Vampirism has nice bonuses, but a lot of negatives when you go out during the day.

Werewolf power attack is so much fun, just throws them 10 yards across the room.

Didn't try being a vampire yet but my Oblivion character was one for the whole game, got kind of annoying.

I'm a werewolf, with 345 dmg MH and 345 DMG OH and 906 armor the transformation is useless. It's for the disease immunity only. (got 100 enchanting 100 smithing and 100 alchemy, hence the stats)

I don't like the sound of being killed on sight by everything D:

is there any way to uh, unvampireize yourself?

If you're going to choose between those, go werewolf. They have no downside, unlike vampires. Well...not totally true. People tell you that ya smell funny. Thats it though! And if someone makes you angry, just go claw their head off.

oh come on srsly? i mean you are a dragon born and yet you decide to taint it with wolves or vampires?
nope, not for me, i only stick to my skills and my shouts
"The instinct of self-preservation? You call it that. Yes, i will sink my teeth into life. Fuck your evolution. Let other species wait their turn. I'm not a lamb being led to the slaughter."

What is better, to be born good? or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?

Yep, you eat people. When you feed you look less like a vampire to other people, the trade off is that your stats aren't too great. You only get attacked on site when you haven't eaten for a few days and you're in 'stage 4' vampire mode.

Eating people doesn't kill them and they usually don't notice.

There's also a quest to completely stop being a vampire.
    this game sucks

Both Werewolf and Vampire have quests to cure yourself.

On-topic: Werewolf is much better, transforming into the beast is totally optional once becoming one (when you do its kick-arse and wolves treat you as an ally). It has utterly no downsides apart from the sleeping bonus which is negligible imo.

Vampires have too many negatives to be worth it. Having to feed is a pain in the neck (lol pun), as-well as getting attacked on sight when you are your strongest is lame too.

Werewolf has immunity to diseases, the ability to run around even when overburdened, and some awesome finishers. the drawbacks are no rested bonuses (minor loss at best) and when you are in werewolf form you have no access to maps, inventory, or magic spells/weapons/potions. That said, the transformation is completely optional (you have complete control over when and where you change, if at all.)

Vampires get stronger as they don't feed and can still use magic/weapons/potions. However, fully vamped people are kill on sight most everywhere and going outside in the sun can actually make you weaker. You must continue to feed to keep from getting all vampiry (you know, the kill on sight kind). you better be a good theif, or know where a bunch of people like to sleep outside.

i didnt like being told how i look or about how my wolfish grin gave people the creeps, i havnt played a vampire yet, but i found werewolf to be less than fun. its a shame the companions quest line ends if you dont take it.

Having to put all my gear back on after Werewolf form ended became such a hassle I just never used it again.

    Abilities:

Champion of the Night - Illusion spells cast by your vampire are 25% more powerful.

Night Stalker's Footsteps - Vampires are 25% harder to detect while sneaking.

Resist Disease - Your vampiric blood gives you 100% resistance to disease.

Resist Frost - Your vampiric blood gives you 25% resistance to frost.

Resist Poison - Your vampiric blood gives you 100% resistance to poison.

Weakness to Fire - Your vampiric blood causes you to be 25% weaker to fire.

Weakness to Sunlight - Health, Magicka, and Stamina do not recover while in sunlight and are reduced by 15 points; however, if you equip apparel that grants a faster regen percentage on any of the three stats, or take a perk that grants faster regen, they will still recover in sunlight. (Only when you're outside during the day.)

    Powers:

Vampire's Servant - Reanimate a weak dead body to fight for you for 60 seconds (can only be used once a day).

Vampire Sight - Improve night vision for 60 seconds (can be used multiple times a day and be toggled on/off).

    Spells:

Vampiric Drain - Absorb 2 points of health per second from target (novice destruction spell, cost of 5 magicka per second).

    Stage Two

    Changes from Stage 1:

Resist Frost - Your vampiric blood gives you 50% resistance to frost.

Weakness to Fire - Your vampiric blood makes you 50% weaker to fire.

Weakness to Sunlight - Health, Magicka, and Stamina do not recover while in sunlight and are reduced by 30 points; however, if you equip apparel that grants a faster regen percentage on any of the three stats, or take a perk that grants faster regen, they will still recover in sunlight. (Only when you're outside during the day.)

Vampire's Servant - Reanimate a more powerful dead body to fight for you for 60 seconds (can only be used once a day).

Vampiric Drain - Absorb 3 points of health per second from target (novice destruction spell, costs 10 magicka per second).

    Powers:

Vampire Seduction - Creatures and people up to level 10 are calmed (cease to fight) for 30 seconds.

    Stage Three

    Changes from Stage 2:

Resist Frost - Your vampiric blood gives you 75% resistance to frost.

Weakness to Fire - Your vampiric blood makes you 75% weaker to fire

Weakness to Sunlight - Health, Magicka, and Stamina do not recover while in sunlight and are reduced by 45 points; however, if you equip apparel that grants a faster regen percentage on any of the three stats, or take a perk that grants faster regen, they will still recover in sunlight. (Only when you're outside during the day.)

Vampire's Servant - Reanimate a powerful dead body to fight for you for 60 seconds (can only be use once a day).

Vampiric Drain - Absorb 4 points of health per second from target. (Novice Destruction spell; costs 12 Magicka per second.)

    Stage Four

    Changes from Stage 3:

Resist Frost - Your vampiric blood gives you 100% resistance to frost.

Weakness to Fire - Your vampiric blood makes you 100% weaker to fire.

Weakness to Sunlight - Health, Magicka, and Stamina do not recover while in sunlight and are reduced by 60 points; however, if you equip apparel that grants a faster regen percentage on any of the three stats, or take a perk that grants faster regen, they will still recover in sunlight. (Only when you're outside during the day.)

Vampire's Servant - Reanimate a very powerful dead body to fight for you for 60 seconds (can only be used once per day).

Vampiric Drain - Absorb 5 points of Health per second from target. (Novice Destruction spell; costs 15 Magicka per second.)

People will be hostile towards you and might attack you on sight.

    Powers:

Embrace of Shadows - The vampire becomes invisible, with improved night-vision for 180 seconds (can only be used once per day).

    Notes:

The effects of Vampirism become stronger the longer the player goes WITHOUT feeding.

Feeding ALWAYS brings the player back to Stage One.

In the early stages of Vampirism, NPCs will act normally around you.

On stage 4, everyone is hostile towards you, so be careful! (tip: use your invisibility ability to sneak into a house to feed).

You can feed on sleeping NPCs in the same way you'd pickpocket from them. Just press the action button while sneaking.

If you are having trouble feeding at Stage Four, you can travel to an abandoned camp or shack, and ask your companions to sleep by asking them to do something for you, and then hold the action button on the bed. The window of opportunity is very short. This is a safe, convenient way to deal with hunger. However, one may often find themselves without a companion; if one is a member of a guild, they can wait in that guild's bed area and feed off any sleeping NPC's easily, especially the Dark Brotherhood who allow you to walk among them freely.

It takes approximately 24 hours (in game) to advance a stage after feeding.

You may want to draw power from the Lady Stone, which helps to offset the lack of normal health or stamina regeneration in the daylight.
If you plan to let your disease reach higher levels, it will become difficult to trade with others. Learn to craft your own potions and equipment, and become as self-sufficent as possible.
Compiled the vampire stats from the Elder Scrolls Wiki. Vampires are good for stealthy 'spellthiefs' which are like rogues which use illusion magic to be pretty much undetectable (extremely fun). Werewolves are good for warriors who like going balls deep on enemies. Also people seem to forget the drain which heals you. Incredibly useful for boss fights.
    this game sucks
