    East/West/Grass/Snow

    There's a 47 page thread on the official forums debating which is better to use in Alderaan Civil War. (Yes I said 47 pages)

    Since the server transfers there are players who are used to East & West and others used to Grass & Snow. This is causing some contention and confusion during the match so I'm curious... What do you guys think?

    One requires that you know the map.

    The other requires that you know cardinal directions.

    I, for one, will never trust people to know the map.

    Man this thread is funny. Someone actually said East and West changes depending on which faction you are on. I'm dying with laughter.

    ... Wow.

    I am really glad I don't use those boards much.

    That is mind boggling.

    When I'm calling out, I say east or west.
    Stating an opinion as fact does not make it fact. Opinions are not fact. So don't be stupid and make a fool of yourself by trying to pass off your opinion as fact.

    grass/snow is better as it eliminates all confusion

    east west is bad because the rebel east on the map is the sith west
    the sith west is the rebel east

    why would you use a system where the values are subject to change. grass/ snow is a CONSTANT across ALL maps and factions

    yw
    Then he follows up to clarify
    your not getting it

    on a rebel mini map east is the same place as west on a sith mini map
    These people are keeping me from my studies with how funny this thread is.

    problem with east and west is, people need to check the map first to see where east is and where west.

    in addition, a lot of people mix east and west up, especially in the heat of battle. so grass/snow is the better choise in my experience. but its always confusing, in the void star and novare coast, too, I just wish they made actual buildings like in arathi basin, there was never any confusion there. I am aware the guns in alderaan have different names, but there is just no visual difference. but you need one for most people to act quickly, and grass/snow offers that kind of visual difference.

    They should make the lazers that shoot out of each turret different colors so you could say blue/green/red.

    Tinge the floor of the bases themselves too with the flashing of the lazers being fired.

    The "grass" and "snow" is basically coming out of the "drug" culture terminology that has worked its way into SWTOR PvP gaming.

    Grass = Marijuana
    Snow = Cocaine

    So that's the reason why, and if someone says let's go snow/grass you have an idea what they really mean now. Most people have an idea what left/right or east/west means, though.
    Best post EVER! The funny thing is my old server uses East & West so when I transferred and started hearing Grass & Snow somehow I asked "Grass? Do you mean Weed?" Since then I refer it to Weed and Coke. Was funny when I was like shouting Inc Coke Inc Coke! COCAINE DAMMIT!

    Talk about a low blow.
    i bet this happens only in Usa.

    I'm just quoting stuff from the thread that I find funny.
    man, who'd have thought that a compass rose, a device that has been used for hundreds of years, would stump a bunch of gamers in the year 2012?

    I'd rather be using East & West but it seems that groups I'm in have this logic stuck in their head:

    East = Right
    West = Left

    So as an Imp. I've given up on these guys with cardinal directions. Been using Grass & Snow and it seems to be working fine. I absolutely loathe using G&S to call out where to go...makes me feel like a kindergarten teacher telling the 3yr olds where to go.

    I just use whatever the rest of the team uses. I usually ask before the match starts. It's fun starting a debate in the 45s before the speeders appear.

    Most people say left and right, not east and west. I have heard grass once and i was like 'WTF is this fool talkin' 'bout?' Then I saw some grass near the left one.

    All fun and games aside to me grass and snow is only efficient to those calling the incoming not responding to it. They can easily from seeing a bunch of white or green tell where they are. Now this is sad because they are there and should know which side of the map they are. As for the ones responding the reason you're calling incoming is for fast response. So you'd want to use a way that would cause fastest response. To me (and this is just my opinion) grass and snow is inefficient.

    When you are defending the middle turret you cannot see which side is grass or snow. Therefore in your mind you have to first equate it to a direction East/West or Left/Right from there you then have to proceed to the appropriate direction. Why not skip the mental association from visual marker to direction and just call the direction. There is a minimap on your HUD so you can always be able to get your bearing to be able to go in the correct direction.

    Now all this is pretty much a moot point. If you are a skilled player you should always be checking the map from time to time. Watching how many players are at the turrets your team control. You would be able to tell if your teammates are allowing themselves to be baited away from the turret or if their numbers is dropping fast. Bottom line you supposed to know what's going on and in what direction anyway. NEVER leave less than 2 players defending a turret EVER. Or a skilled player or pair of players WILL take it regardless of how good the defender is.

    I like grass and snow. I see people get confused with left/right and east/west all the time, but it takes all of a second to look to see if there is a huge pile of snow there or not.
