    Do you commute to school/work?

Recently found out what the word 'commuting' means. (traveling to work/school)

Anyways, I need to go commute to school after the summer vacation via train.

    Do you need to commute?

I find it quite annoying to travel but it needs to be done. :/ It's about 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back to my city.

Who doesn't commute? It's just part of life for practically everyone.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

I work from home... so my commute is about fifteen feet.

Hmmm, I guess my views are colored by my experiences, but I lived on campus at my university for 1.5 years, and my university was probably 98% commuters (30,000+ students driving to/from the University every day). I guess the only other time in my life I haven't had a commute was when working in the field on a seismic crew, where I'd sleep in a tent, step out the door and be at work every day.

It just strikes me the commuting is probably the norm for 90% of adults in the developed world.

Wow, it takes you 2 hours to drive 30 miles? My commute is about 25 miles and it takes me 30 minutes each way. Less, if there's no traffic.

Dunno the distance, but it's roughly a 5 minute drive (give myself 10 minutes) through a 50 km/h area (residential/built up, always 50km's if there are no signs).

But even then, the entry to the car-park where I park crosses one of the worst spots I've seen in peek period traffic. No one gives a monkeys plum that I've been waiting 3 minutes to get in there, they just wanna get home! One guy tried to let me in, but I couldn't go in because someone else was coming down the turning lane; so this guy flipped me the bird.

    >.> Gotta love commuting.

I commute, as does the majority of the USA, but I bike most of the time.

There are probably less people commuting nowadays due to computers/internet allowing them to work from home, but it is still the norm.

The major effect that the economy would have, is that people might be forced to find work further away from where they live.

Yep, that's what I mean, if you find a job even if it is far away, you're fortunate.

I have a car but I opt not to drive it.. Gas in LA is ridiculous, plus my job charges $70/month for parking.. I can get a bus pass for $53/month... But now I pay insurance and payment for a car I don't use too often..

OT: My commute is about 30-45 min for 3.5 miles (by bus) in LA traffic.. It would be much faster if I didn't have to go past the freeway (405) - traffic really jams up there on my way home.. If I were to drive it would take about 15 min.

For about 2 months I did a 2 hour commute to and from work (the job a took was a huge raise and I knew I would be moving soon so I sucked it up). I had to take a bus to a train to get home.. And a train to a bus to get to work..

Before I moved to LA my commute was a 5 min drive to work...
