You do know original Death Knights are actually Warlocks, right?
They are more badass by default 'cause they are not just mortals, they wear plate and are still mainly the same class. In lore Death Knights will always be more than Warlocks, 'cause they are "upgraded" Warlocks. When it comes to game, it's either what you like most, melee or ranged.

Really no Rogues option. Striking from the shadows, using black magic to teleport to targets and have shadow blades to cut through armor...

Death Knights are 'redemeed' of some sort, they are no longer 'evil' they are good guys who were killed and forced into dark stuff, now they just use fire to fight fire sort of.
Warlocks are just plain evil, immoral bad guys so I think that makes the class more 'dark'. Shadow Priest would be second dark class after warlock imo (Looking at their skills they are kind of 'sadists' I think.)
