Poll: What do you control?

    Social correlation

This is a two part question that really only works if you had or have a pet that isn't contained to a cage or tank.

Do you control your animals or do they control you? If you point your finger (if you ever have) at your animal, does it back down from you and listen to you or does it continue to do as it wishes?

In the same token, do you control your life? If someone confronts you and you feel wronged, do you stand your ground or avoid conflict?

Now for fun. Do you feel these two questions are directly related? Do you feel you can be a leader in one aspect and a follower in the next?

No animal. I avoid conflict unless for some reason I'm compelled to believe that aggression would be in my best interests.

Don't think the questions are necessarily related at all.

Without naming the animal in question this Thread is pointless because different animals require different treatments.

The coexists option with a dominant species is obviously the right thing.

And why are humans animal-like in this? The level of complexity is just too huge to produce anything than flawed analogys.
Interspecies interaction is just not the same what do you even want to achieve with this?

Stand your ground? Is that about gun control?

Why are there only 2 options regarding a conflict?
Avoiding a conflict has nothing to do with whether I am capable of controlling it or not.
I avoid conflicts because I deem them unworthy of my time. If I am forced to engage the conflict, I most certainly will stand my ground and control it.

I have 2 dogs... Both listen to me, and they also respond to sign language/finger snipping as well.
Pointing fingers at a dog and the animal backing down, that however would raise an eye brow to me.... That is generally not a good sign. It's rather a sign of fear...

    None caged, non tanked.

    Dogs
    Cats
    Monkeys
    Pigs
    Certain birds
I'd say ferrets or rabbits, but they tend to be caged and threaten no one.
    bunch of nonthreatening small breeds.

    Who am I forgetting?

No real wrong answer. Still something free enough to destroy your home while having a means of hurting a human. Most animals fail to meet one of those two.

I have a dog but hes more like a member of the family. He doesnt do anything bad so I dont see any reason to "control" him and he doesnt cause any conflicts either.

So no, we don't boss him around, he can usually go where he pleases on our territory. If we take him for a walk outside of it, we use a leash because it's required by law but he doesnt seem to mind.

If I had a pet that actually went to toilet indoors and would destroy furniture or clothes, I dont know. I guess I would first try to "bribe" it into doing it outside and would avoid conflict if it's possible.

Pack leaders don't bribe. Bribing is treats and treats are training. I'm talking about how your animal views you in day to day and how that view relates to your fear in the real world. Remember I said to feel "wronged." Walking away at this point means you lost something. As if I took your hotdog.

You shouldn't treat other people like animals, or animals like they're other people.

So I don't see how these two things are really related...

I might know I am wronged, but still walk away without feeling of losing anything. Because I know I was/am right.
If the solution to walk away saves me time, because I know it's a lost cause to discuss with that individual, then avoiding translates into a gain.

Long-winded "happiness in slavery." but like I said, no wrong answers.

my 2 dogs know 37 different commands including bar teeth to warn and hold an intruder down to ground without breaking skin.

In your other question I refuse to allow anyone to act up face to face and will stand ground every time.

Cat. If i point my finger at him he comes up and sniffs it and rubs his head on my hand,

Cats throw me. Would almost not count them if not for my friend. He has one, comes to his door and waits until he calls it in. It will wait at that door the whole time until called. He loves conflict.

No idea how he did it but it's beyond what I understand.

    You are its property now.

My dog argues if it feels it's not wrong, like when it sits on a chair at a place setting for someone else at the kitchen table. I tell her to move, she makes weird noises and gives me a look. She also eats salads. *shrug*

Assuming this isn't some dumb......Yo I'm so ALPHA! thread.

Your two examples do not correlate because they are different frames of reference. One is dealing with a "dumb" animal which is normally much smaller, weaker and on a completely different social scale. The other is dealing with people who may or may not be physical or social equals to oneself.

That's fair. I'm seeking all ideas.

I have cats, they don't give a goddamn fuck what I think or tell them to do, but I also have a laser pointer and pencils to throw so getting the results I want is somewhat easy.

I don't think they're necessarily related, but for some people it might be.
