Farming for Vial of the Sands

    I am a lvl 600 Archeologist and 600 Alchemist

I just wanna make sure I am right about this:

~I have to do Archeology until a digsite randomly spawns in Uldum (where in the world I do Archaeology doesn't matter).

~If I digsite spawns in Uldum, I have to hope I get a canopic jar.

~If I get a canopic jar, I have to hope for the Vial recipe.

So is getting this thing RNG inside of RNG inside of RNG? Please tell me I am noobing it up and there is some easier way to farm for canopic jars.

You have to dig in Kalimdor, the rest is correct

Dig in Pandaria, turn complete artifacts into boxed artifacts. Turn in boxed artifacts at the seat of knowledge for Tol'vir fragments is also a viable method of getting the fragments you need.
My name is Cernunnos, I will love you like no other, I have died a thousand deaths, each time I died I thought of you.

Awesome, just capped Archeology this evening and am about to start some serious farming. Very valuable information from the both of you... thanks a ton.

And LOL @ me... I was digging everywhere but Kalimdor ><

    Much appreciated.

my advice for farming vial of the sands? dont. find a trusted friend/guildie to give your mats to in exchange for the mount. compensate them with a generous tip and be done with it. it takes around 200 solves or more i believe before u have a sufficient chance of finding the recipe. assuming you can finish 4 solves in an hour. thats still 50 hours to deal with this headache. if not theres a very nice guide lurking around somewhere on mmochamp. or u could try some pandaria solves and exchanging as well.

.......or just buy Tol'vir fragments with all the hand-ins you get from Pandaria digging.. Much faster than hoping for a Tol'vir site in Kalimdor..
    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

This is the fastest and most easy way to farm for both the recepie and ground mount. If you start digging in Kalimdor... god i hope you have that time (and luck)

Again, thanks for all the input folks. Personally, I don't want the actual mount (it's ugly imo - and I don't like being transformed), but I want to have the recipe since I am working on filling out my alchemy book and feel as if that's something really nice to have. In other words, for me, it's more of a hunt for the recipe than the mount.

So dig in Pandaria, hand in the crate things for Tol'vir fragments. Got it.

Oh yeah, I am a 600 Alchemist. I am working on getting this recipe and all the BC/LK stuff which is no easy task.

If you are farming for it in Pandaria, it pays to purchase a Sonic Locator (sadly it isn't bugged anymore). When you purchase it, all new digsites in Pandaria will be Mantid ones as long as the item is in your bags (it stays for one day). Mantid sites are only located in Dread Wastes and Townlong Steppes and most sites are very small. You'll spend very little time flying by doing it this way, and flying is the biggest timesink when doing Archaeology.

You can also turn spirits of harmony into Tol'vir fragments and never touch a digsite. Buy Restored Artifact
and use them to buy Crate of Tol'vir Archaeology Fragments. I believe you need to be exalted with the lorewalkers to do this.

There's a much quicker way to farm tol'vir fragments but it involves using a bug, so you may not be comfortable doing that. There's an item you can buy from the archaeology vendor in pandaria that randomizes your dig sites on Pandaria, but it works for other Azeroth zones as well. First, go to Uldum and dig up the sites that are there, move slightly out of Uldum and into AQ or Silithus and then move back into Uldum, there will now be new digsites. That's how i farmed for my vial recipe and mount, both within a few hours.

What I'm currently doing is stockpiling Spirits on alts in the hope that they'll become BoE or BoA at one point and ship them off to my main character and buy crates with them.

That helpful bug was fixed with the 5.4 patch I believe. It was great while it lasted though and helped me get my mount.

I said before, that the "bug" really did fix all the worst parts of Tol'vir archaeology. Its too bad they broke the fix.

Wow, this information is extremely useful. Incoming Archeology farming days, for mount, vrykul drinking horn and other fun stuff.

I didn't find out about the bug until too late, much sadness! 400 Tol'vir solves and still nothing.

I was under the impression that Vials was guaranteed for Alchemists but not for any other professions, which may have been why people considered it a yo-dawg RNG. Have any max level (at least cata levels) Alchemists been incredibly unsuccessful with getting the recipe? I got mine on the very first jar my alchemist opened.
