    Pokemon Handheld game question

So, I really dont even like pokemon, use to when I was younger.. and Ive played every game up to gold/silver/crystal. I got a 3DS for Xmas and was looking into getting X or Y but Im to kinda chicken to jump on one since if it doesnt relate to much to the older games, I dont think I would like it. Anyone that grow up playing gold and silver know if X&Y is good? like the older games where? I saw some gameplay lol idk if I like it to much, alot as changed. Does it have older pokemon from first and 2nd gen or is it all new stuff?

I owned every single Pokemon game for the handheld and I really enjoy X & Y. The only thing I kinda dislike is the lack of endgame. Still love it though.

I haven't played X or Y yet, but I played Black 2/White 2, so they're pretty similar. Comparing it to the originals, blue/red, it's totally different. But at the same time shockingly similar. It's almost like Call of Duty, it's the exact same game but it looks prettier and has different items/pokemon. The pokemon are literally retarded now, it's gotten to the point where the developers just look around the room, see something, give it eyes and call it a pokemon (okay, I don't have a source confirming this, but really I'm pretty sure that's how it goes) but the items are all reasonable and similar to the older versions.

I think it's interesting to see how the game has evolved, and even though I haven't played every game cause I'm not a massive fan, it's still fun to me. The games would be better in my opinion if the Pokemon didn't become completely absurd (literally one is just an ice cream cone...) but other than that it's worth checking out. If you liked the old ones not much has changed, you'll probably at least get some enjoyment out of a playthrough even if you don't play it repeatedly to catch em all, as they say.

I didn't like X/Y. I'm not saying this because I think gen 1/2 were the best, I thought gen 5 was arguably the best yet. It feels like they compromised too much to have their shiny 3D graphics. The graphics are nice yeah, and they obviously put a lot of effort into them (even though the fps does drop a little sometimes), but the game underneath them is a step backwards. There are fewer new Pokemon, and of the new ones I only find the Fennekin line, Noivern and Aegislash unique and interesting, but that's more of a personal preference.

The storyline is awful. I know Pokemon games have never had a particularly strong storyline, but I thought they were making some progress in Black/White, particularly as they progress into Black/White 2. Now we're back to generic incompetent bad guys who want to kill everyone for bizarre reasons. The early reveal of the team leader is so obvious that it completely kills any suspense. On the other hand the champion has almost no involvement in the story whatsoever, having a couple of lines early in the game and then appearing out of nowhere in the final battle with a pitiful team. The sequence after beating the champion was cheesy even for a Pokemon game. There is no postgame. It's quite hard to overstate how much of an issue this is after every generation since the second one has had at least reasonable postgame content. Compare X/Y to HG/SS and you'd be mad to buy X/Y if you don't own the latter.

Most annoyingly there is no challenge whatsoever to be found in this game. No, Pokemon has never taxed you to the limit of your skills, but I expect to at least have to think while I play. Even without the xp share you will easily outlevel everything you encounter without grinding, the AI is utterly useless and late game gyms are still throwing 2/3 Pokemon at you. It's not that the game is easy (although it is), there is just no difficulty curve to speak of. And this is assuming that you disable the xp share. The xp share breaks the game. I understand that it's optional, but what benefit does having an option to break the game have? Outleveling everything by 10 levels or more is never fun. It should have been a postgame reward if anything.

tl;dr get Black/White 2 if you want the best recent Pokemon game. The only people I would recommend this game to would be either young children or people who want to keep up with the competitive battling scene.

    Agree 100%.

If all you want is to get to the competitive part, then X/Y are solid. But if you want some challenge and/or post-League content, then go for Black/White 2.

You can still get a 3DS for both, though. And they might add/fix things if there is a Pokémon Z.

It's not bad, I liked it fine. Black and White (Gen 5) is still a lot better though in my view.

This. I didn't mind X and Y but it lacked big time in terms of end game. It also doesn't help that Pokebank has been delayed until they can update their servers or whatever. I am already starting to miss the PWT (Pokemon World Tournament) from BW2 .

x and y is probably the best game to start playing if you havent played in a long time. it has the most pokemon of any game ever, including the old ones so you have alot to choose from, its 3d like in pokemon stadium, you get the gen 1 starters along with the new ones.

if youve played pokemon before its not gonna be a challenge to get into it. there might be things you dont get/understand but unless you plan on battling competitively pretty much none of that stuff matters.

at its core its the same game

    get up to 6 monsters.

    each one has 4 moves.

fire beats grass, grass beats water, water beats fire ect ect.

Yeah, there's plenty of older Pokémon! You even get to choose one of the Kanto starters.

IMO X/Y are good games to return to the series. Personally I didn't like BW/B2W2 that much.
