Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Joins Assassin's Creed Movie

    Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/...ns-creed-movie

Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly signed on to join the Assassin's Creed movie cast in the role of Leonardo da Vinci.

The rumour, originally reported by Moviepilot but since removed, suggests that the upcoming film could be set around the events of Assassin's Creed II or its tie-ins, where the famous inventor appeared opposite Ezio Auditore.

Since the story has been taken down, there's no way to verify whether or not the rumour is true. Given Downey's penchant for bringing a comedic twist to his roles however, you could see how he'd do well as Assassin's Creed's imagining of da Vinci.

Michael Fassbender remains attached to the upcoming film, presumably to star in the leading role. He's previously made it clear that while the team will look to the games for inspiration, they're keen to mix it up a bit and tell and original story.

Justin Kurzel, who Fassbender has collaborated with previously, was attached to direct the film in April. When asked what he felt the director would bring to the project, Fassbender said, "I just think that there's one thing Justin should be doing, and that's directing. I know that from working with him on Macbeth. He's just fantastic in terms of his vision. Adam, the DP that he works with, is amazing. They've got a great shorthand -- that's essential. He's fantastic with actors and each department. He's a real heavyweight."

Assassin's Creed is slated to hit screens on May 22, 2015.

This news makes me feel all tingly inside.

Assassin's Creed movie + Michael Fassbender + Robert Downey Jr. = I could die after seeing it and be okay with that?

Wait, the cast isn't even finalized and it'll be in theaters is 8 months?

    That's...an ambitious schedule.

    Or should I?

I hope this movie isn't just another nail in the coffin of video game adaptations. Fassbender and RDJ are both great actors, so hopefully the script is not shit.

I was kind of scared seeing "Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly" as my preview, I am always so afraid he will relapse and end up dead or something I love the games, hope the movie turns out awesome!
    You're a towel.

So... Robert Downey Junior's agent has convinced the novelty actor of the early 21st century who has stolen the minds of hundreds of thousands of children to play in yet another cliche action-adventure film targeted at children? Looks like he's well on his way for a Richest Actor of the Decade Award!

OT: Well, hopefully the script will at least be fairly worthy of the sheer amount of the movie's budget that will be dumped onto Jr.

9 months? no way. post production is atleast 6 months+. that means if they started now they would have 3 months to film. i highly doubt this slate.

Could be a great movie, but the ratio of movies based on video games that are bad is almost 1 to 0.

I hate the work he had done on his face recently, he looks like Kevin Spacey.

The ratio of bad video game movies to good ones isn't almost 1 to 1, it's more like 3 to 1...or higher? I'm struggling to come up with ANY good video game movie, whereas for bad I'm coming up with...a lot.

I just hope he can pull off a different persona from the Avengers / Iron Man Movies. I'm sure he can, but it'd be nice to see him play something different.

    I failed at ratios.

Leonardo? And here I thought he'd be a perfect Ezio...if they're actually basing it off those games.

    Cool either way.

Lol, you do know he's been acting for years, right, and has already tons of roles totally different from those? Like, you know, Chaplin, which got him a Best Actor nomination? If you want to see him play something different, you don't need to wait for the Assassin's Creed movie(which isn't even confirmed that he'll be in), go rent/download/stream Chaplin or Zodiac.
