Do people pay to play current content or all of WoW?

It seems on the Blizzard forums there are people talking again about the nerfs to old content, drops, or gold for rewards. I wonder why Blizzard continually does this?

I think that if people are choosing to pay to play your game, you should keep all content as relevant as possible. If somebody wants to join a guild with people of level 60 folks, they should be able to do that and survive.

This reeks of D3 auction house. Nerf content to get people to us another feature of the game.

Current content by far! Enjoying it like there's no tomorrow! Just can't play 24/7 'cause of work, but ye, all about current content!

I pay my 12 euro a month to play on the servers and I pay the 60 euro to get the new content for that year ( 2 years whatever ).
    Thats my interpetation at least.

i dont think i would be playing still if all the sub got me was what was current, not that the current content is bad, but for me there isn't enough of it on its own. but im the sort of person who wouldnt be happy paying a sub JUST for raiding a couple nights a week.

It's always a shame to see the vast world and many, many raids and dungeons they have by now just sitting there untouched by many, but it's a product of the evolution of the game, I'd love to see them somehow make all that stuff relevant again, not on the gear progression path, but I'm sure they could add meaningful rewards, and they already have the tech in place to scale Ilvl, make it happen blizz.

When I played the game still, it was a mix of old content (running old stuff for transmog and mounts/pets) and current stuff. Mostly dungeons and reputation. Sadly, none of the current content interests me at all and I don't feel like paying for an expansion and monthly sub to beat up old content.

^This is my stance as well. Expansion for content, subscription for server acces.

The gold nerfs seem to be done to prevent abuse in an attempt to curb goldfarmers etc (if it's an effective matter is highly debatable though)

I pay to play New (Current) content. I am slow to cancel because I raid but I do not maintain subscription to grind mounts / gold / useless points.

I play both current and old content. I am pretty involved in WoD things, and I raid 3-4 nights a week so I kind of have to be. But I also love achievement hunting and that's driven me to explore more of the content I missed since I came into the game late BC but didn't start truly playing the game until Cata.

I think that bringing achievements into the game was a great way to make old-content relevant. I still run old content frequently, whether for these achievements or mount drops, transmog, or just leveling an alt. I think they've tried to make the older content more viable by adding battle-pets inside, toys, music scrolls, etc. So they're definitely giving it some attention. Just when I thought I was burnt out on doing older content, they brought battle pets and transmog into the game. After that, Blizzard gave us toys and seemed to add more pets(I came in late to the battle-pet game, though so that could be wrong). You can definitely see this in the updated versions of World Events every year, too. So I guess a lot of what they've introduced old-content wise has been more about collecting things, which is what I like. So I'm interested to see if they give it any new attention outside of that box.

They did revamp some of the lower dungeons with WoD, though, so there's definitely a new experience to be had there.

This kind of bothers me then. These changes have an affect on players, not just bots and goldfarmers. Perhaps they should take care of those problems (if there is one) and enforce their rules of the game, instead of lowering the rewards for other players?

    - The money for the expansion applies to the content.
    - The subscription is for access to the game.

If there ends up being nothing to do then I don't need access and unsubscribe until I do. By extension, it's nearly impossible to determine whether or not an expansion is "worth it" until it's done. For my money, Cataclysm had the least value as an expansion, Mists and Wrath had much more value when all was said and done.

I have no idea yet how it will go with Warlords. 6.2 needs to be pretty rich but most importantly for me, the year long drought at the end of an expansion needs to go.

I generally like to play current content, but find enjoyment in going back to older content. It seems by these constant nerfs they want fewer and fewer people to run older content, and be rewarded in any form or fashion for it. Seems odd to me, they should want people doing whatever they want in the game to keep you paying your subscription.

I'm quite enjoying myself. So yes, I'm still playing and paying, and I don't mind.

As a raider i am paying to play with friends in current content not many guilds have cleared Mythic yet mine including. I do a little old content for mounts and gold but yeah can't see myself leaving the game for longer than 3 months ever.

We're now entering the new improved era of "Everything that is wrong with the game is due to the WoW token."

You sub pays to log in and fun content updates. The box price for the expansion pays to access that.

What I'm trying to understand is why they would bother using resources to nerf that old content, if people are still using it. If I can spend a couple of hours running old raids and dungeons to get items, loot, and a few hundred gold, why would they not like me to do that?

Because then you would do it less often as you get the rewards you desire faster and unsubscribe faster from lack of things to do.

I pay to play as I please within the limitations of the game. I don't restrict myself to new or old content, I go where I feel like doing stuff. Right now, that's mostly in old content. Draenor does not manage to keep me out and about in the world like MoP did.

I pay to play all of WoW (which includes the current content, not sure why you should only play one or the other). When current content gets stale, I love pet battles, collecting pets, mounts, vanity items, and running through legacy raids to get such things along with transmog gear. However, it's a lot more fun on a server that's more populated than my main's.
