This is why i love players who mod video games

    Source:

Some guy brother died. One day he played a console and he noticed that his brother was playing Skyrim. He checked his character (BEAR) and looked araund the place. Then he made a post on reddit.

After that a game modder came to help (Sjogga). He modded a shrine and placed it on a same spot as his brother left his character before he died. (and also added 2 npcs)

That he take gaming too seriously and need to find better ways of dealing with his brothers death than a video game.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

That's an example of where online gaming enters unhealthy proportions.....
He should have learned an entire different lesson instead...
    Which is:
Life is too short, stop wasting it away in video games.

I will agree that this seems a bit to much, but i hope you realize that it could easly be said " Life is too short, stop waisting it away on internet foruns", and you could replae the internet fóruns by anything that inst necessary for you to be alive tomorow, like having any kind of hobby.

His brother didnt die in video game. He died in boating accident and they placed a shrine. (in real world)
The modder just made it in video game, seening as it was last place when the guy died.

Blizzard did the same thing in wow:

Blz did it as tribute to a developer who died.
This guy got it done so he can spend time grieving ingame.

    How is it even compareable..

I doubt he's spending every waking hour watching a digital shrine. And if he is, he's not one bit different from people who do it at real world shrines.

It's a nice gesture. In sense he's trying to remember his brother in a good way. Video games are a very good form of escapism especially during times of serious loss.

Blizzard did a few tributes, like the one cancer patient that died can be found in a tauren starting zone actually voiced by him. Later in the questline it shows his spirit.

Nothing wrong with reddit beyond the default subreddits being pure trash most of the time.

Good in the sense that it is an escape sure not very sure it will make him progress in dealing with his loss though.
    Seems like just postponing it.

Anyway dont know the deatails about how much time he spends doing it but trying to use fiction as a tool is generally not the proper way especially if he created a direct link in fiction as a means to deal with the loss and just not as an 'escape of time'.

The only real thing beyond making sure you have someone to talk it out with, either family or a therapist, that progresses dealing with the loss of a close relative is being given time to process it and come to acceptance.

I'd totally sign that forums sentiment.. And I'm not even hypocritical about it....
I'm in my 50s.. I've got everything accomplished already. Nothing left to prove.
I can kick back and relax now.
But, when I was as young as that kid, or most, I definitely did not have the time nor the will to waste my time away..
    My entire life happened IRL.
Well we had no Internet for some time, but we've had video games already. We're (people of my age group) the first generation gamers.
And yet, the hours I've spend with those are easy to count.
Maybe 10 hours total over the course of a year. Life's too precious. Has so much more to offer when you're younger.

Yes time outside fiction I would say. One would probably not adjust back to his/her real life by hiding in fiction.

People cope with death in different ways. Some people get over it quickly, others end up needing months or even years to recover especially if the death happened abruptly and it involves someone very close to the individual.

I think this is a very sweet way to remember his brother.

Adjusting back to real life isn't so much the end goal as it is a step to coming to acceptance with the death. Moving on with life will heal such wounds eventually, how long it takes depends on the person.

I agree it isn't a very good idea to have fiction serve as a means of grieving though.

These wounds never ever heal. The bleeding may slow down, but it's a wound that never closes completely.

My dad still deals with his parents being dead that makes Batman look mellow. He thinks about them every day and I'm subject to him venting to me about his regrets about being drunk. I've only lost a mentor that was really close to me years ago and I still find myself getting a bit sad at times.

What's wrong with going to fiction to cope with things? It's a temporary escape from reality and there's nothing bad about that as long as it doesn't become an addiction.

It's kind of jarring how many people seem to want other people to move on quickly from their losses. I believe a lot of people are simply not willing to admit that they don't like the inconvenience of someone grieving. It takes time - and sometimes people don't heal at all especially if the circumstances surrounding a sudden loss are particularly painful and traumatic.

It still has LOADS to offer when you are 50+, stop wasting your time and get out there.
You still have 40ish years to live and enjoy life outside.

so because he's greiving in game that automatically means he needs to get out and experience light and all that stereotypical garbage. yeah this thread feels more like an excuse for people to just bash gamers than actually discuss anything of meaning.
also seeing as you have almost 20k posts i really wouldn't throw stones if i were you...
