    does anyone else hate caves?

I swear, I'm not going to accept another quest that makes me go into a cave! I always get lost and can't find my way out. I start getting real-life claustrophobia!! I was just in Ban Thallow cave in Winterspring, and must have run around in circles for 15 minutes. I finally just let the spiders kill me so I could die and resurrect at the graveyard.
I know the game is super-easy now, but I still find the caves frustrating. The path on the mini-map is so dark you can barely see it, plus it doesn't really clearly show the way to the exit.
Oh well, this is just a minor gripe but I wondered if anyone else had my problem.

Well if warcraft caves are so confusing for you, then you must have real orientation problems IRL.

I love caves in games, i'd love an entire underground WoW expansion deep in the nerubian ruins and old god horror infested deep places of the earth.

Dont you want to be Ted the cave diver?

Maybe not hating them but I don't find questing in WoW caves particularly fun. I usually play with high camera distance and once I enter a place with a low ceiling the camera work gets awry and jittery.

Deepholm is another story because even tho this place is one giant cave, it's large and free to move in. No claustrophobia feel in there.

This is why I hated old Wailing Caverns, the place was a goddamn maze.

I don't really care much for them, ive memorized all the ways to get out so its no problem to get out for me.

You really would have hated the old Wailing Caverns you would have been lost for days lol.

Oh my god I hate caves too!

I'd go in, kill all the dudes to get the guy in the back . . . and then everything I killed starts respawning. So now I have to both fight everything again to get out, I also have to worry about extra mobs respawning in my face. And if I end up with extra mobs, I can't run away.

I've always hated caves in WoW.

I particularly hate WoW caves, not because they are hard to navigate, but because they are designed with literally only one exit, and artificially block any passageway out of the cave except for one stupid ramp.

The only time they had a two exit cave was Wrath, in the easternmost part of Storm Peaks if I recall.

It also doesn't help that their textures are fucking horrible too, especially the ones from Vanilla to Cataclysm, sometimes the passageways blend in with the wall.

With a very small number of exceptions, the caves are one of a small number of presets. Once you've been through a handful you should know the routes to the rest of the game.

The original Wailing Caverns is a good example of how frustrating caves can be. It would be a great model for an entire Underdark style expansion.

The only cave that really bothered me was one in Jade Forest near the water. And it wasn't the cave itself, it was the spiders attached to the ceiling that would do a slow flip, dangle their legs down, and then do that slow descent. Masterful animation. Really creepy. But it got me to looking at the ceiling more than the floor while I was in there.

The night elf cave you go into at around level 8 or so. You get like 10 quests in there and the place is a real maze. hate that place.

Ah yes, the infamous den. Best thing is that amulet droprate from the shamans I believe, which is why so many people run back and forth- and then get lost.

I like caves, but in WoW? All they are is a crammed space designed to prevent you from avoiding fights and to make it hard for your to kite anything for the specific purpose of making you fight everything on your way in and then fight the respawns on your way back out. And they've only got like 5-6 vanilla caves, maybe one original BC cave, a couple Wrath caves and so on. Once you've been in them all that's different is the monsters, the gathering nodes and the decorations (if those are even there). If they wanted to make them more interesting they'd have to start by not using copy pasta geometry and then move beyond designing them to all be like a dungeon.

That place was quite nice on my first NE character but I avoided it like a plague on any subsequent ones.
Very easy to get lost there. There's similar sprawling den in Felwood as well afaik (or was pre-cata, I remember an extensive cave system in that zone in Wrath)

And im a person that liked Doom-style maze level design. Doesn't work well in WoW primarily due to respawning enemies and level design that prevents you from deviating from a set in stone path.

There are actually many many templates.

I tend to notice the one cave template with the hole dropping into another level along the the circular path leading up. But many temples are used only once.
