    Boomkin and Heirlooms

Heya. I was just wondering if any of you had any experience leveling a boomkin with heirloom items. Reading the sticky about druid leveling on this forum, I've been led to believe that from 10-60 it's very inefficient to level boomkin as SP isn't readily available on vanilla items, and you will go OoM very quickly.

With the advent of heirlooms, though, does this fix the problems with boomkin leveling at lower levels, or does the amount of SP on the 3 items (cloth chest and shoulders and staff) not justify leveling balance?

I have a set of the cloth heirlooms/Staff as well as the AP leather from my rogue. I think I would enjoy either spec, but if Balance is close to cat, I would prefer to do that. If cat is still much faster, I'll have to break down and purchase the lava dredger and lvl feral.

    Thanks for the advice. Peace

There's rarely any sp cloth anyways, so basically almost same for all casters.

Why would you level as boomkin while feral is faster(prowl to avoid unnecessary fights) with absolutely 0 downtime?

Maybe, but feral can be rather boring sometimes.

This. This. A thousand times, this.

I wanted to be a Balance Druid so bad, but the spec was almost unplayable until 40+, and even then, Spellpower Gear was rare and downtime was guaranteed. So I gave up and went Feral. By the time I hit 58 and got into Outland, I was so sick of Feral that I immediately went Balance before even starting the quests, then slowly, one by one, replaced my gear with quest rewards. It felt like some epic battle. I had great Feral Gear, but when I went Balance I suddenly realized that 300 Agility didn't help Balance at all. So with my barely 1000 damage Starfires, I eventually killed everything in my way, collected a full set of spellpower greens, and achieved my goal of being a Balance Druid. Granted, there was a small amount of downtime, but with how much crit was on those Outland Greens, I was either one or two-shotting everything I found.

    It was glorious.

Feral is pretty tedious to level with, much more fun when you hit 80 and get some gear.

But I've found myself, playing to much balance before 80, which then brought nothing new at 80, and balance wasn't as fun anymore at 80. Still fun, but not as fun as it could have been...

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

I leveled Balance and it wasn't bad at all.

Innervate is much, MUCH better now. Use it on c/d/whenever needed. It helps a lot.

Heck, I leveled before the reduced CD, so it's probably even better now. Yes it's less mana now, but I rarely needed a whole one. I usually popped it right before killing something just to get more use out of it. It would have been much nicer to have it more often.

The heirlooms help, but tbh it's completely doable without them. Yes, feral is probably faster, but it just didn't appeal.

Balance, especially with a leveling spec and heirlooms, is not that bad and you should do it if it's what appeals to you.

Especially if you already have the cloth heirlooms (it's not worth getting the leather just for a boomkin) and the leather melee ones, it wouldn't be that hard to switch back if you just hate it.

I did boomkin 1-80, I didn't find it bad at all.

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

I myself leveled as feral until level 40, I absolutely despised Feral, then at level 40 I re-specced boomie. I had some problems at first with gear and such. But once I got the set of gear it was awesome and fun. And at level 80 I still find my boomie to be loads of fun. I am always trying to find fun new things to solo and such that make it fun. I didn't think of trying to level 1-80 as balance. But with BoA gear I don't see it really being to much of a struggle. Just carry lots of water on you and you should be good to go.

Make sure you get the trinkets as well (2x spellpower + manaregen), because it does matter alot. 0 downtime on my mage. I didn't lvl as a Boomkin, because I had to get 80 within 5 days, but it's probably doable. Make sure you get the chest, shoulders, staff, 2 trinkets and try to enchant them for maximum usage. +100 mana would probably be best for the chest, the staff with 30(35?)sp.

I just finished leveling my druid as feral to 80. Just go feral, ultra fast, 0 downtime!

    FEral is boring!?

Boomkin rotation - Wrath, wrath, wrath.....wrath wrath? To me this seems to be boring

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

If you decide to get Heirlooms for your Boomkin, get the Cloth ones since the only difference between them and the Leather is a (very small amount of) armor, and the Cloth ones can at least be used on three other classes.

Pointing out that moonkins still have prowl available to them to avoid stuff. A but slower and not as strong a stealth as feral, but it gets the job done.

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

lvled as feral to lvl 41 and went boomkin, btw this was in the start of --->TBC<--- so much downtime, but i enjoyed being the fattyshitty retard. Ppl went lol wtf everytime they grouped with me, 2 bad moonkin are overplayed now in comparison ^^. OT its much more fun to lvl as boom than feral imo, and awesome offhealer if u cant afford teh dualspecc at 40 or choose to go feral for tankzor or w/e

And there's a difference with feral?

Catform = claw, claw, claw, claw (or mangle/swipe).
bearform = swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe.

    Works bothways :P

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

I partially leveled as balance (after moonkin form) in TBC. Of course, back then I could melee for mana which eliminated downtime, and the feral advantage wasn't as noticable (since the 30% speed as cat didnt work indoors).

I'd recommend leveling by running random dungeons, at least early on (45ish+ dungeons are a pain). The satchel drops help a lot with itemisation issues. Once you get to outlands there won't be much of a difference between feral and balance anymore.

    Re: Boomkin and Heirlooms

Hoho, at least when you're levelling as Boomin you only need to worry about hit rating, which gets solved by your talents. When feral, it's horrible seeing so many parries/dodges/misses
