    You opinion on TF2's Micro-transactions?

As most of the TF2 Community knows, Valve has added Micro-transactions to its very successful game. It basically allows people to spend real money on in-game items like Hats, Weapons, and so on. This has naturally created a issue in the TF2 Community. Items used to be gained from hard work, achievement hunting, or just plain luck. Now it is as simple as just spending 5 dollars and getting the same thing. People also think those who spent money on items are fools, and I've personally seen a group chewing a guy out for spending 10 dollars on a Hat.

Others just pray that other companies don't follow Valves example with this system.

This Comic Page worked rather well for the subject.

What are your opinions on it?

My opinion is, to each their own. Those who earned the item before the patch got a vintage label on their item while those who bought it afterwards do not, which adds value to the older item. I personally have bought a few weapons myself that I just couldn't get to drop with the best of effort, and the prices were so low that it wasn't even worth complaint. The hats are still pricey, so if someone really wanted to spend real money on it, the hat would still be valuable.

And while it is a little off. Isn't the point of a actual hat to be worn and shown off? Sure it is a actual item, made of atoms and so on. But isn't a virtual hat following the same theory? Sure it isn't real, but if the person wearing it has more pride of the virtual hat than they ever did with the real one, is it a bad thing?

If people are dumb enough to waste their money on pixels that don't affect gameplay at all, then let them. It's a moderately smart move on Valve's behalf to take advantage of people in such a way, by making them think that their online persona is somehow related to their real life one.

According to valve tf2 is currently there testing environment. And the 2 things bought the most off the store are the most expensive item and the cheapest item which was a surprise to them. Personally i think its fine i feel valve deserves some money so i would buy a key every now and then. They have given us a ton of free patches for TF2 and id rather a little store then patch for DLC

Paying for game-affecting items always spells downfall for a game.

Except the opposite. It's how basically everyone in the industry makes money now.

TF2's system should honestly be a model for others to follow - it's transparent and optional. There's no "point system" that you have to buy into and then buy content with again, almost inevitably losing money in the process. Everything you can buy can be found by just playing the game. Most (not all, but most) of the items are purely cosmetic.

The only thing I hate about this system is the fucking crates... How I hate the crates sooo......

But still, I can't delete them... It's like Cake... but, wrapped up...

lol, I kid I kid.. But if this was any other company doing this *coughEVEcough* I would be worried about the integrity of their games as a whole. Valve knows good marketing ideas, and thinks about their players before embarking on huge cash schemes...

I mean, we're talking about a company that makes more money off a high quality game selling at $8 than most video game corporations do at the standard $50 amount... You can't tell me they aren't the greatest developers in the world (lol)...

If I had the Joker picture handy, I would put it in here.

Stupid because custom skins are easier to install and are....FREE plus if you play a tf2 gamemode in garrysmod you can load up all those beautiful items without paying a dime
persnaly microtransactions are trying to make the computer gaming community lazy and passive, I mean I used to load up cuatom everything into cnc renegade,I had a easy to see stealth texture, an infinate zoom scope skin, and even bright neon uniforms for both sides so I could see ho to shooteven whe they were in cover

Do you even play TF2? In WoW you can buy more pixels that technically don't effect gameplay, but in TF2 the items actually do stuff. Just for the record though, the items you can buy aren't always "upgrades." Most items have both positive and negative affects on your character, for example, The Scotsman's Scullcutter increases your damage done by 20% but reduces your movement speed by 15%. There are a few rare items that only have positive affects, but they don't make huge differences. Basically, the people that chose not to spend actual money on anything aren't at any significant disadvantage.

I used to play TF2, but stopped after about 30 hours of getting backstabbed by terrible rogues who were invisible.

That's just you being rubbish against Spies. And that is their trademark move. TF2 isn't like CoD where you just run around aimlessly on your own. It's a team game and rewards teams working together.

Just get a Pyro do to Spy checks.

I am aware, and like in MMOs, games that involve stealth and multiplayer are terrible and frustrating. Add in lag, and it's super frustrating. Not worth my time!

As far as im aware, you can also get the items by playing ingame too, you don't have to buy them

Considering how well they've maintained the game (consistent patches), and how many times they've put it out on sale ($5.99?!). Its fine.

Not to mention you can obtain most (all?) of the items in game. Their market was incredibly well thought out and implemented.

I'm curious how many people posting here actually play the game. I have every item I need for my Soldier and I haven't spent a dime.

The only issue with Team Fortress 2 is its not Team Fortress Classic!

Everyone likes customization and uniqueness to some degree. When trading was first released, I was addicted to the Steam Forums trying to find a good hat to obtain. TF2 has been a VERY successful game. It's rare to see developers support a title for so long, and do it as well as they have. I kinda see this as a last ditch effort to get money out of it while they still can.

I definitely think the newer weapons and whatnot are imbalanced and annoying. I'm also looking at this from a competitive point of view.

Do players buy from other players or the company itself?
