I'm getting this message as well. There's a post about it on the official WoW support forums. Apparently, they know it's an issue, but haven't fixed it yet.

It's been happening for the past 3-4 hours. According to the Tech Support forum, it fixed for some, but there are us who are still screwed (I'm in the latter). I can confirm it has nothing to do with pre-ordering Cata digitally though.

Authentication servers are being hit by all the people logging into the account page to buy Cata Pre-Order.

Then authentication servers are again being hit by a percentage of those people trying to log into the game to play cata.

Then the authentication servers are being hit AGAIN by a percentage of THOSE players logging on to the forums to complain how they bought Cata and now they can't play it and how there should be a class action lawsuit against Blizzard.

BTW - there's about 8 other threads on this in the last hour. Scan down the page before creating a new thread.

Fair enough.. It's tough when people name threads about login issues with such vague titles as:
"Has anybody noticed..."
"This doesn't seem to be working right."

That's right, I didn't mean to imply it did. Its just every time something new goes live on Blizzard's site and a few hundred thousand people are all trying to do it at once, it causes issues for people trying to log into the game. It's happened when race changes went live. It happened when faction changes went live. Hell - it happened when the Celestial Steed went live.

Ie, it's not YOU, its just the strain the authentication (authentication meaning, checking usernames and passwords - nothing to do with authenticators per se, although that's included) servers are under. Some people will get through. Many won't.
