Can a feral druid beat a frost mage 1v1?

I mean if both are good and geared, does the feral have a chance?

  2. #2
given frost mages are heavy melee counters i think feral chances to win are very low.

  3. #3
Only a good feral vs a bad mage.
    Otherwise, forget it.

Get your bleeds on him, you have two easy roots breaks without ever getting to your trinket. Interrupt when you can (they have a ton of instant cast so there's not a lot to interrupt). Maim -> heal if you need to/can. Bear if you end up rooted, especially if you see fingers of frost/brain freeze up, may want to survival instincts at this time, too. Just save your trinket to stop the deep freeze/evocation or for a kill.

The problem with frost mages for any melee class is that they can make many many errors and still win. You have to make none to win.

not ever since they took away the ability to shapeshift out of roots.

you can get it back as one of the lvl 90 talents in cata tough

If you do beat a Frost Mage as a melee, don't let anyone know, or else GC will buff Mages again and nerf your current class.

not when played at high levels with equal gear, which is what the OP is asking about.

sure good feral with good gear will beat a bad frost mage in greens, no shit.

equally skilled feral and frost mage in full ruthless - feral doesn't stand a chance anymore. used to though

The only meaningful interpretation of this question is to assume the two have equal quality of gear and equal skill levels.

With that assumed the Frost Mage will always beat the Feral Druid.

Nothing wrong with that. Not screaming OP. It's just the nature of the classes in their current state in a 1v1 scenario.

Only since they nerfed feral druid shapeshift mobility. Before that they were always a possible exception, although it still favored frost mage.

Damn everyone thinks Frost Mages are God lol. They don't hard counter every single melee so much that it's impossible...

But yeah you should lose normally as a Feral.

Warriors are hard countered by mages. Dks are screwed after blood freeze and ams go down. Enhance shammies can keep up interrupts for a bit, but then they're still dead at the end. Ferals can try to stun and let bleeds roll, but ice block pretty much wins the game. Retadins- LAWLWINGSONMAGENOW.

A well played frost mage can shatter an enemy pretty damn low in a few globals, so yeah, I'd say they're a pretty hard counter to all melee in a duel. Different in arena where your healer can help dispell/interrupt, but still plenty strong.

Nobody seems to take location into account when giving 1v1 advice, and against a Frost Mage in a close quarter, tight area with not a lot of room to move around and a lot of corners, you should never lose to a Frost Mage. In a wide open area, winning will be almost impossible. Being able to put up some bleeds and hide behind a wall and restealth and reopen over and over is stupidly OP and I rarely see anyone do it when I am against a stealth class.

It's not an easy win for either side. I personally find that going EXTREMELY aggressive right off the bat, completely foregoing dots all together is the best way to go. That'd be ravage>mangle>sprint+feral charge>ravage>shred>shred>FBite. That's usually ~70kish damage with cds popped. If that didn't force a block/dfreeze, You should have an easy win. If it did, you can clone and try to go for a restealth(blink should still be on CD so you shouldn't have issue).

If he was smart and blocked your zerk, you can go for a reset and either a) wait out zerk timer, or b) bleed him up when he comes out. Bleeds then go bear tend to destroy frost mages without blocks.

As a feral, I find fighting frost mages to be very fun and quick. The trick is, if you get the jump its almost a guaranteed win. Open up with pounce, and try getting a shred and rip in before they blink. Once they blink, feral charge in cat form and use Maim. Do some baller-damage, pop Dash and chase them around for a bit. Once they blin kagain, go bear form: Feral Charge > Bash > Cat > Shred > Rip > Maim > Shred/Mangle > dead mage.

EDIT: Like the poster above me, its about going balls-out against a frost mage. Prolonging the fight too long will almost result in a guaranteed win for the mage.

"The general rule" is the key to this sentence, though it is correct.

A sub rogue who knows their abilities will tromp through a Frost Mage, as will Warriors, idk much about Ferals but knowledge of your spell book and use of all of its abilities will give you what you need to beat any class.

Sub rogues and frost DKs can beat equal geared and skilled mage, but for a feral it is pretty hard, frost mages got more roots than druid can get out of.
