    High-End Gaming Desktop ==Needing Advice

One of my first endeavors is to build a Computer that will be worth its price and that will last for atleast a good 5yrs. I am just sick and tired of the computers I'm stuck using at the moment. Their way too slow and get clogged up with Registry errors way too quickly, along with just not having the computing power I need.
The only advice I really need is that :
    1) Did I choose a good-enough PSU (Thermaltake 1050w) or do I need the 1350w?
    2) Should I go with the Frio extreme CPU fan or the Bigwater CPU water cooling kit?
    &
    3) Do you see anything thats obviously not compatible with something else?
    4) Do you have any suggestions or upgrades?

PSU is already far far overkill, could probably get by with a 500w easily, maybe need a 650w. Parts do not need as much power as they did 5 years ago.

Also, what is the intended use of this setup, just gaming? Video Rendering?

  3. #3
Are you planning to add one or two more GPUs? Otherwise 1050W is complete overkill and something like 550W would be enough.
Why do you need 32GB RAM? Most gamers don't even utilize 8GB fully.
Why do you need a 6 core CPU? Do you do some serious rendering, computing or otherwise demanding multi-threaded work?
I don't think that Razer headset will do the $200 soundcard any justice.
What is the purpose of the Bluray burner? Most people hardy uses optical drives at all.
Get a proper SSD instead of the Momentus. It is much faster.
Why do you need Windows 7 Ultimate over Home Premium or Professional?
With this kind of budget I would get a better monitor, either a proper IPS or a better 120Hz if that is what you are in to.
The Big Water 760 gets beaten by air coolers such as Phanteks PH-TC14PE and Noctua NH-D14.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz

The few things I would change are your PSU and Optical drive.
Get a better brand like Seasonic or Corsair.
I don't see any reason to get a Blu-ray drive imho.
I also didn't see a SSD in the build. If you're spending that kind of money on a rig you should at least get one like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147193 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148443

And $440 just for 32g of Ram?

As everyone pointed out, the PSU is way overkill. If your only purpose is gaming this build will be much better.

Hmmm, if hes going with a 2011 setup plus a 7970 a 1050 will be overkill but a 550 is a bit to low i think, 650 at the minimum i would say.

Other than that i agree with Nab, although i would go for a 7970 (GHz edition) which is just personal preference.

In Sweclockers test of a I7 3960X and a 7970 both overclocked their system only used 469W at full load.
That is measured at the wall so deduct 10% of that for PSU efficiency as well. So the real usage is more like 430W. A Quality 550W PSU is more than enough for that.

Thanks for the input you guys. I got Classes so ill be back on here later.

BTW, Im a Computer Science Major and already demand a lot of power from my computers,
trying to build a near perfect computer that will last me threw the couple years of college I have ahead of me.

Keep on with the suggestions though, it'll really help me out

It is much better to save about 30-40% of your pretty large budget and upgrade in a few years than spending it all now.

You are going to have a hard time fitting that H100 in a FT02 unless you want to remove the bottom fans.

My oversight. Was just throwing it together quickly, will update the build.

Edit: Updated build in my post above.

1: You're getting a PoS mouse. A mouse is very important for a gaming computer. Don't get that junk. Get a WIRED mouse. That crap has too <Snip>
    3: You don't need a sound card.
    4: Buy this keyboard: http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gamin...T-Ryos-MK-Pro/

Warning: Piracy is illegal and therefore suggesting it is against the forum rules.

I/O is very much a personal preference. I put the build together above with that in mind. Also, the sound card listed (afaik) has a headphone amp. The quality produced by said amp will greatly improve the listening experience with high end headphones.

Huh, going to argue some points here
    1. You know interesting thing about most wireless mouses now....you can also plug them in and run wired. Also I have a g500 so I highly recommend Logitech products.
    < snip >
    3. No argument here.
    4. I also highly support Corsair products and the k90 is for the most part is a quality keyboard, some of the keys are just regular keys but they are the keys that are rarely used, F1 through F12, Esc, PrtScn, Scroll Lock, Pause/Break, Insert, Home, Page Up Page Down, Delete, and End. And with the fact it has G keys on the side I really doubt the lack of mechanical F1-12 is much of an issue.

There is a point in price-to-performance where you start paying loads of money for little increase in performance. With that processor you've definitely hit that line I'd say haha. Also it depends on what your computer is for. For gaming, that's all a little overkill. I personally like nVidia over AMD because of quality drivers and support. A single 670 or 680 would do fine in the next coming years. Also, the i5-3570k processor is pretty beastly. I would recommend just avoiding spin drives all together, and two SSD's in RAID 0 is disgustingly sick in a system (I have it :P). But if money isn't an issue, that's a sick system there.

I just built a completely new system from scratch 2 weeks ago, including 24 inch monitor and keyboard and $150 usd sound system, total was $1650 usd. Liquid cooling, 8gb of 1866 ram, 240gb SSD, i5-3570k at 4.4 GHz and 670 GTX. Send me a message if you want more details/parts list

If you can afford the 3930k and the 2011 platform and it won't hurt your wallet then get it, theres a reason it comes with a premium price tag.
