FBI Chases fappening leakers, other revenge websites still going strong

Looking at the legal part of this:

    - A few celebrity pictures got leaked: Google gets sued, FBI is looking for the leakers, etc. etc.
    - Hundreds of not thousands of women and men have theire nudes online on revenge websites like [] against their will, they have to pay 250$ to get it off the website, and no-one bats an eye.

So the first question would be: If the FBI can act on this, then why not on revenge websites?
If someone can sue a 4th party like Google, how does no1 sue the creator of these websites?
How is there not more outrage about 10 people being able to use the FBI as their personal killsquad while thousands are in the same predicament?

    Discuss!

The sooner everyone just lets everyone see them naked, the sooner we all stop caring and pretending it's a big deal to have seen anyone naked.

A lot of people believe that the internet will split in two. There will be the internet that mmo-champion is on and 4chan, and the second internet will have your banking website, maybe facebook, twitter, etc.

On the second internet, you'll be you with your first, last name visible to all. They plan on using hardware and software to accomplish this, a government issued dongle or something like it. Very secure.

Nope they are still free which is why the SCOTUS is getting another set of charges ready for Wallstreet before the end of the year.

If I put a keepsake in a safe, say a private letter, and a thief breaks in, you blame the thief.
Not the safe, not me, we acted as we are allowed to. The thief stole.

Bear that in mind, everyone is allowed to put their photos wherever they want, using the icloud is not idiotic, it's not granting permission for the world to see, the theft is the bad thing.
That's aimed at you, TrueMegaManiac, "nudes they idiotically put on the cloud" is putting the blame on the victim.
I'm not calling out those who looked at, or even shared, the images, but he who stole them.
I'm not saying the celebrities are terribly unfortunate victims, they obviously do have some upsides to their lives, but it's still being a victim.

The FBI going after the leakers is expected. Also if the pictures were accessed because of a flaw in one of Google services then they can probably file a class action lawsuit against Google, I don't know the details of the leaks though.

The difference between the leaks and revenge sites is that the content on on revenge sites someone who can at least contest ownership of the content uploads/sells it to the site. The sites can also hide behind clever terms of service and legal shenanigans, kind of how all torrent and file-sharing sites can avoid trouble.

Celebrity or not, the law protects people from just stealing your data. People store information on cloud services expecting it to be secure and private and it's up to the provider to take the necessary steps to secure the information they are trusted with. There is a mix of "buyers beware" but if you can so that a provider was breached because of clear negligence then you have a case.

And remember, just because someone leaves there door open means you have the right to start taking their stuff. Digital doors included.

Money and power buys privilege, even in the legal system. Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, sadly.

the analogy would be more apt if you were leaving your hypothetical keepsake in a locker at the subway station

you can both have the thief be in the wrong and be a moron for failing to take proper precautions at the same time

So you expect celebrities to use common sense instead of thinking that they're such a special snowflake it could never happen to them? Good luck with that.

As far as I am concerned, all the celebrities can go choke on their husbands tiny dicks, if they didn't want this crap happening to them, they shouldn't have put it up on a domain that can be accessed by hackers. Smart folks, these rich people are. Only celebrities and athletes would be stupid enough to put their photos on anything other then a secured offline computer that no one else can access. The joke is on these stupid rich people really, they are just facing what a lot of people in society have dealt with before, only no one gives a shit about the average person since the general public aren't rich and famous.

Blaming hackers for nude leaks when people are stupid enough to put said nude photos in places that can be reached by prying hands.

If you put something in an offsite storage facility like a storage bay, and someone breaks in and steals some of your stuff out of it (say because they found a flaw in the storage bays security system that let them bypass it or pose as you) would you just go "well serves me right for not keeping it in my apartment" or would you rip the owner of the storage bay a new one?

It doesn't matter if they're famous or not, someone broke into their persona belongings (their personal cloud) and stole information from them (photos). Yet because they're celebrities it's THEIR fault and not the fault of them scumbags who stole them? What sort of twisted logic is this, seriously?

As to the OP, it's because the government is being VERY slow to actual make laws to protect people (mostly females) from spiteful exes. There has been a few strides in this field (I know there is at least one purveyor of revenge porn who finally got nailed by the FBI and other agencies) but it's still a huge uphill battle if it happens, even if the photos aren't real (say they photoshopped your face onto someone elses body) or someone merely hacked into your phone/email and stole them (has happened to regular people too) Laws take forever to catch up with technology.

Keep in mind that a lot of this stuff was "on the cloud" because Apple set their phones to automatically backup to it by default and didn't make that fact obvious.

Blaming the victims because they were using a service they thought was secure just seems wrong to me.

Maybe they should stop living in that ivory tower of their's and smell the air down here. Also, RTFM about that cloud thing, I'm sure it was written in there.
