Not a great chance of that. One of the reasons Planetside never really took off like it should have is that Sony stubbornly refused to advertise the bastiche. But PS1 fans are like the FPS answer to Trekkies, and we tried to compensate by word of mouth, YouTube videos, et cetera. And now, miracle of miracles, we get to see a new revamped Auraxis -- a high-tech Valhalla where friendly fire is always on, battle are almost always unequal, and bunny hopping does not work. And they're making cinematics for it and throwing ad dollars at it.
Glad to meet you all; I found this forum while I was cruising around looking for PS2 clip art. A lot of your questions can be answered by browsing the FAQ at planetside-universe dot com. Also, the developers drop in on a random basis and hold impromptu Q&A sessions.
Party on.
Not a great chance of what? Having a large playerbase or dying?

Anywho, the more I look at it, the more I like the NC better than the VS. The VS are starting to feel like a weird alien cult when the commander voice goes "VANU IS WITH YOU!", and I'm not a fan of that. I might just go NC and try to pretend that their armor doesn't look like it's made out of cardboard.
Cardboard armor isn't a problem when you have shotguns. NC for life!
In PS1 the Jackhammer was pretty formidable in general and down right redonculous in close range while the Sweeper was a common pool (avaliable to all factions) shotgun that was an average close to medium range shotgun. Going by what they've released so far it seems the Sweeper may have been redesignated as an NC weapon and I havn't seen anything on a new Jackhammer so far, it isn't shown on the NC weapon sheet shown here but it would be strange for them not to carry over the Jackhammer.

Her hall is called Eljudnir,
her dish is Hunger,
her knife is Famine,
her slave is Lazy,
and Slothful is her woman servant.
I would just assume the Jackhammer would continue. It is imo too iconic for the NC to be removed.
Still waiting on my beta invite.
It'll come...someday ;_;
Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.
I got in last night. Can't say anything obviously, but I sure wish I could
The new trailer is rather one sided for a 3 faction game, it consists of TR doing nothing but dying to one smurf and then the barneys arriving fashionably late to mop up the survivors in their usual style .
