I was actually disappointed int he overarching theme of this episode. I was hoping that rarity would prioritize herself and come to understand that her friends are far more important that her career (or the other way around. Wouldn't THAT make for an interesting MLP episode?) It seems she got a status quo preserving compromise, however.

At the end, she realized her friends were more important, but then that Fancy Pants guy was all liking the simple dress and her friends anyways. So it didn't matter.

She got away with lying, and it was never rectified or corrected. That's the only thing I'm disappointed about.

I'm disappointed that at the beginning of the episode, I was hoping that rarity might give me some reason to identify with her. However, that didn't happen.

It was nice to have Fancy Pants turn out to not have a problem at all and it was all just in Rarity's head.

The point was that she didn't have to make a choice even though she thought she did the whole time.

Twilight would have been fine with her hobnobbing.

Fancy Pants would have been fine with Rarity being with her friends.

It was really only Rarity making a big deal out of the whole situation and stressing herself out, leading to the lies and misdirections.
