considering giving TOR a try. got a question

ive been a star wars fan for a while, and played every SW game made. i didnt want to start another mmo, but after watching some commentary videos im quite impressed. so im considering giving it a try at some point.

when i do i want to play a mage like class as i always do. is the consular the closest thing to it as it was in kotor one and two?

and where can i get more info about classes, tallents, and similar game info? the official site has a lot of verbal descriptions, but i prefer a hands on clicking approach

Can use torhead.com if you're used to using wowhead for info about things. As for a magey class my sith sorceror feels very much like a ranged caster, i think jedi sage is the republic version.

The Jedi Sage is indeed as close as you can get to a Mage on the Republic side. Whereas the Sith Sorcerer would be the closest you can get on the Empire side.
They can be both damage dealers and healers, as damage dealers they play out quite a bit like Mages do. As healers they are more Priests.

This, but I'd call the sorc/sage more of a mix between elemental shaman and shadow priests. I really don't see many similarities to mages, no matter if lightning or madness spec.

k sage it would be... found a talent tree on torguild.net, might be outdated but nvm.

    seems there is

    seer - telekinetics - ballance

seer is clearly the healing tree.

tho im not sure what the other 2 are really specialising in by just reading the talents. could anyone clarify plz

edit: or i could have just clicked the talent calculator button on torhead... im suprised im an it professional sometimes.

There is a bit of Mage/Warlock in my Bounty Hunter as well (crazy aoe dmg with long cool down)

I don't see a lot of perfect 1 to 1 mapping between WoW/SWTOR classes... At 20+ there is always some kind of mixes going on that makes it feel like something but also a lot of the other.

The Balance tree is shared by both Shadow and Sage. I've heard that it is best used for solo game play and that this is the intention of every classes shared tree. For the case of the Consular, I believe it increases DOT damage as well as decent lightsaber use.

Also I would agree with the person above - Consular is more like a Spriest/Esham than a Mage. You main attack is a movement-slowing channeled spell (mind flay-ish) and they have some DOT use as well.

My Sith Sorc is a "disc priest" when healing. And a good mix of mage, elemental shaman and warlock when doing damage. It's great fun.

economics sucks balls... went to the game shop and they didnt have it.. so i got home and thought, well ill just get the digital one, worked for cata....

$60 us... ok thats about 330kn here (croatia)... but i need the europeian one.... thats 55 euro... which is 420kn here.... it would cost me a third more to buy it in euros...

edit: even worse, even if i did somehow get it, i wouldnt be able to play it cause of some fk tard licensing restrictions...
