Red Leader standing by for OP to update thread.
Seriously, this thread has sticky potential.

#.) GW2 will kill [insert Azeroth here].

Now I know many of you might agree with this one, but I'm going to point this one out as a fan-boy assumption. ANet has clearly stated that they don't have any intentions of "killing" any MMOs, they just want to make a fun game that everyone can enjoy, even if they do play a "big name" MMO.

this is why I wanted to have sources with the points, I try to correct you guys to make it clear. Would be nice of you if you edit your post with a correct statement and sources

    So...you've got 5-10x1000(s)
1.) there are about 1500 events in the game when it gets released:
We’re looking at having around 1500 events happen, so its going to take people a long time to get through all of them. As for variation, we want each quest to be unique, so that’s why you’ll have specific objectives and tools with which to complete them.
    http://www.lazygamer.net/features/ga...olin-johansen/

2.) Events are a part of a big event-chain. But each of these parts counts as 1 event.
-) pirates build up on shore = 1 event; after you have defeated them / got defeated you'll get rewarded with experience and karma on the fly before the next event starts.
    -) pirates move inland = 1 event; ...
--> each event-chain consists of events.

this doens't count in all the (hidden) events, only the big event chains in a certain area.
Here is a good discussion about the nature of dynamic events: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c..._a_discussion/

each of those builds plays totally different, each of them is totally viable, there is no "best" option, only options that are better for certain situations.
This is my top 1 false assumption. There's no way that all different weapon combinations will be all "totally different" and "no best option". It is impossible by concept, like a rounded square. GW2 fanboys will be disappointed.

    6. No increase in gear after 80. No point in playing to get better gear. (From a friend playing WoW for 5+ years)
This is my second one, but it's really close. This is a complete crap! A game that has to bribe you with items and titles to make you play it can't be good. And if you pay a monthly fee to get bribed, you can't be smart, so I don't care about your opinion.

well tell me: what is the "best" option...?

what I wanted to say: in games like WoW a bow isn't viable for a warrior, because he doesn't even come close to the damage potential he is doing with a 2H-Sword. In GW2 there are no stats like strength or agility. Your stats for damage are power and precision - it's usefull for all of your weapons. If you have a lot of power and switch from sword to bow, you won't become substentially weaker. It depends on the situation. If you fight against a melee, the better option would probably be the sword in close combat and the bow at long range combat.

saw it first at the gdc vault, a big faq with the developers...

    found it again here:http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...raphy_edition/
    or here: http://feature.mmosite.com/content/2...of_tyria.shtml

    here a new example:

there are around 60 dynamic events in this map. We know that there are 25 zones in the game.
    60x25 = 1500

    Source:
How big will the game world is the issue? - In the PvE part of the game will initially be 25 very large zones where players, as well as six massive cities - one for each race and Lion's Arch, a metropolis where all races meet - where players can explore. In addition, there are eight "dungeons", which is longer missions designed to be omspillbare.

First I want to start thanking the OP for that post, my my my some work you've put into. Kudo's!

    5. It's a low budget, B-Rated MMO which will fall into oblivion.

    4. LOL! They stole Charrs from Taurens.

    3. Guild Wars 2 isn't open, it's full with portals and such.

    2. Loading screens will ruin the game.

    1. The end game doesn't have enough content

    ------------------------------

    5. No one can really tell how good the game will run, but making assumptions way ahead is just plain silly.

    4. Yes sure, put a Charr and a Tauren together and 1 will walk away with a full stomach. Just sayin'

2 + 3. It is, only main capitals and personal story's aren't, and that feels like Guild Wars, besides a small loading screen of 3-4 seconds when you take an asura portal isn't that bad, I remember taken Zeppelin Paths in WoW that took my pc 20-30 seconds to load. Loading screens aren't bad guys, and you're not going to have an issue with them.

    1. If a dev could, they would hit you if you said that. The whole game is end-game. Everything you do, you can do it later on as well, and still experience the same experience you would if you were the correct level. Play with your friends with your max level character and his starting character and it would still be fun. Besides, mini-games, 2000 different DE's (with new ones added regularly) Dungeons with different wings, insides those wings you'll have DE's who will make your Dungeon experience new every time.

There probably will be best options for certain situations or playstyles. For instance, (talking about the Guardian here)a Sword is better for a mobile playstyle, while a Mace might be better for control. This doesn't make either weapon better of inferior, just different.

It really depends on how much a difference the "best option" is. If the best only gives you a 1%-5% increases in efficiency then does it really matter to the point that you'll have to use it? thats like saying 1 more hp point is so important (sure its helpful but it's not as life or death as 15000 extra hp).

also the "best option" could change from situation to situation, It's not gonna be as clear and cut as "I need the best dps their for I ignore survivability" adding more variables which leads to a greater disagreement of strategy...

so yeah I believe there will be a "no best option" per situation but the difference will be minimal to meh compared to your other options.

    here is another misconception:

there are huge zones but each (???) of the zones is seperated by a portal from the other zones. It's quite locical, there are tons of things to load in a single zone because the world is changing constantly. It would be impossible to load so much information on the fly.

here one of the portals between zones:

we don't know yet if there are portals between ALL of the zones, the zones as we have seen from the demobuilds are huge. It can easily take you 15minutes to run from one end to the other.
    source

Here is an unofficial statement about a guy who talked with one of the developers at the pax, don't take this as stated:
This one has the potential to make people angry. It's needs further confirmation, as the dev I was talking to wasn't 100% sure (and said 'for now'), but there are portals between regions. Each region is comprised of many zones, and there are only 4 regions in the game.
    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cf.../325270/page/1
we could think of Maguuma, Ascalon, Kryta and Orr as those big regions, but it's not confirmed.

Yah. Zones are freaking huge (it took me almost half my demo timer to cross Firefly Fen, and I couldn't cross Shaemoor, lol). I think regions will be similar to WoW continents a la Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms.
    same source

So what do we know so far? Only that there are portals in the open world. If you have played the demo you know that such a zone is HUGE and has a lot of different geographical landmarks. So don't worry, you'll be able to climb mountains, no problem.

BUT: those portals above could have been implemented only for demo purpose, in order to keep the people in the zone
as I said, we don't know for sure yet

I tried telling him, instead of hitting harder and having higher stats than someone else you have better looking and rarer gear. Just like in GW1. The difference between Standard Armor set and 15k armor set stats wise was nothing. They were identical, the difference was the look, money and time it took to receive it.

Yes, it's been highly speculated that every zone will be connected, and the only time you'll hit a loading screen is when you jump WPs, go to a different region, enter a dungeon, enter PvP, or exit both. That, compared to almost every other MMO on the market is EXTREMELY tame.

This one has the potential to make people angry. It's needs further confirmation, as the dev I was talking to wasn't 100% sure (and said 'for now'), but there are portals between regions. Each region is comprised of many zones, and there are only 4 regions in the game.
I'd totally take his (speculative) word on it.
Even if it's not true, I'm sure his word is very close to what is true. This helps dispell the myth of "when you switch weapon sets, you get a loading screen! lolz GW2 suxorz!".

@Bloodhunter: I read your post again and think I misunderstood your comment you meant that the world isn't instaced...
    SORRY about that *doh*
you're right, there may be portals but they seperate non-instanced with other non-instanced areas.

It does have the asian style but not strong enough so I could probably live with it. As long as there aren't those stupid giggling asian schoolgirls in underwear with a wide belt of what you call it around the waist that is :P

But I have an issue with it. Whats the point in playing it if there is no character progress? I think it's a very stupid decision and will kill it. Sure it might be new and interesting for a month or 2 but ultimately it will be like "why I am farming this again? I'm not even getting better gear for it". MMO's aren't e-sport, just forget the balance I say and make it about teamplay instead so if you can't kill some fully epiced out ganker, get 5 friends and kill him anyway:P

Done soz, was at work so didn't have time before.

And yeah, now I think about it my misconception about DEs is obviously impossble. They're massive in scope, but can't be in the tens of thousands......yet
Funny how I tried to clear up 2 false assumptions and hit myself over the head with one of my own

In that link contains exactly 0 information about what will actually be affected by your story and exact kind of consequences that will follow. I presume they will be entirely cosmetic, as it's impossible to make any significant choices without possibility to undo/redo them.

In GW2 your weapon builds this core. And most professions can swap between 2 weapon-sets during combat ... each of those builds plays totally different, each of them is totally viable, there is no "best" option, only options that are better for certain situations.
So I am forced in a certain playstyle just because I have 1-hand axe instead of 1-hand sword? I don't like it.

    4.) it depends:
The developers stated that there are no typical quests in GW2, shortly after they explained this statement. Not everybody got this. Some guys see NPCs who give you missions and think: this IS a quest. Well, you can call it the way you want, but the characteristics of those "quests" are totally new:
There are no quests like we know it from other mmos:
-) no questhubs where you collect a list of quests - instead events and dynamic events which happen out in the world. Some of them can be started by players (e.g. escort-events, you defend a caravan - anyone can participate on the fly) and some of them which happen if you are there or not. Some events can even be triggered (e.g. by daycyles: a DE starts on a graveyard at nighttime)
-) quests means: mobs who stand around and wait for being killed. Dynamic Events mean: The mobs are actually doing something. If you don't prevent them from attacking a village, it will burn down. The Event becomes a new event where the attackers take over the village and you'll have to drive them out. The world is alive.
So what kind of story can be there if some quests can happen with your character, and some don't?
Also when those famous pirates/centaurs/whoever take that village, what will happen next:
    a) They will despawn in 15 minutes
    b) They will eventually conquer the entire world
    c) They will stay in that village forever?

2.) Events are a part of a big event-chain. But each of these parts counts as 1 event.
    [Event map]
So when you quit the game during S22, and in your absence players have done S23-S33, and chain had reset to S1-S8, will you have to redo entire S9-S22 plus S23-S33 for the story? How is it fun??
