All things considered, Gingrich is actually quite intelligent. He's a terrible, terrible person, and should never be in charge of anything more complicated than deciding what he's going to wear out of the house daily, but being a terrible person doesn't make you stupid. The two things aren't related at all really.
I don't argue to be right, I argue to be proven wrong. Because I'm aware that the collective intelligence of the community likely has more to offer to me by enlightening me, than I do to an individual by "winning" an argument with them.

dunno why the respective demo / repub threads are so long and detailed, there's absolutely no way romney / ryan can beat obama / biden in any kind of election process, whether popular vote or electoral college
ill probably be infracted for this post

Paul Ryan may be one of the hardcore members of the right, but he is a walking disaster. He has plans..of course to divide the wealth from the poor and their insurance such as medicaid/medicare and put "caps" on them. There is no cap right now. If a person on this insurance need's surgery for whatever the cost. They would have the option to get it. With his plan it limits the health coverage they can get.

It's a man to slowly surely get people off government insurance and on a private plan that's what your going wind up paying for anyways. It doesn't turn around or create jobs. It widens the gap from the richest to the poor, even more. I don't know why republican's keep talking about "creating jobs" the Bush ERA Tax Cut's is what made this mess. They didn't create any jobs.

Quoting the below what an Obama staffer said about the pick:

"In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy.

The architect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in education from Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors.

As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes."

This is probably an obvious point, but I think Obama needs to seriously go after the aging population of Florida with the Ryan selection. He can win the election without Florida, but Romney can't.

If anyone want's to get a good laugh read this

WASHINGTON - The Romney campaign is willing to discuss its proposals on taxes "in the light of day," vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said Tuesday evening -- just not until after the election.

I've heard many people assert that there's no way that Obama/Biden can win also. To each group, I suggest betting large sums of money on Intrade.

Nate Silver's generally got an excellent system, and pegs it at ~70% of an Obama victory.

I'm gonna hazard a guess and say he meant a country that calls itself atheist/secular, but has a large, uncontrolled population of radical Islamists.

...Yea I can't make heads or tails of it either.

I'm going to hazard a guess that he was just using every single dog whistle he could possible come up with, knowing that he was pandering to an audience that's too stupid to see the contradictory nature of what he was saying.

I can't wait for the VP debate to see him actually try and defend this stuff when confronted directly by Biden. Biden is a loose cannon in front of a mic. He says inappropriate things just like a normal person. He absolutely isn't a stupid person though. He is going to destroy Ryan on foreign policy and his fiscal policies are undefendable.

The Romney tickets foreign policy credentials are woeful. Ryan has no experience outside of supporting two wars that have crippled our economy. Romney on the other hand has visited countries and operated foreign businesses with Bain Capital according to Tim Pawlenty. The only thing Mitt Romney operates in foreign countries is bank accounts. Bain went to Italy, bought a phone company, then shifted all the profits of their sale to Luxemborg through the use of shell companies to avoid taxes. That deal is still a huge stain in Italy. Romney's FP experience constitutes robbing foreign governments of taxes and insulting them whenever he is at the microphone. But hey, the sale was done in 2000 when Romney was still the acting CEO and President of the company but he was doing the Olympics thing, saved by the government's massive cash infusion not by Romney, so technically his retroactive retirement from Bain covers that period of the sale. I wonder if it also covers the $60 million he profited personally from the sale.

I cannot take anything Joe Biden says seriously. The man is a walking lottery machine of stupid quips. He can interrogate Ryan all he pleases, but odds are that he'll come off looking like a raging buffoon in the Veep debate.

I'm also confused as to why Biden will destroy Ryan on foreign policy. Aren't their ideas pretty much the same? And Obama certainly didn't have foreign policy experience when he ran.

It's a mater of perspective and people tend to prefer the company of like minded people. There are constant polling fights in both threads, showing how each side is winning. Thinking one has no shot over the other, just gives more oportunity for the under dog to win, because people tend to vote less for the inevitable.

I've read a lot of Obama's talk on sports sites and he seems to know what he is talking about. I think he might just be a sports fan...
