Not sure its a completely apt comparison. Sages also have a lot of hots and the best aoe heals at the moment.
Its more apt to say sages play like "traditional" healers, whereas Commandos and Smugglers are more resource-driven.Eire - 50 Balance and Kinetic Combat Shadow, Master Zhar Lestin server. Ace guild

Seriously though, they get a bubble, they get hots, and they get and aoe that's really good if people stand in it.

Closest to the WoW priest class. Shield ability, 1 hot, 1 channeled heal (like pennance), one big heal, one small fast heal, a location based aoe heal (like the one the holy priest has), a cleanse, and an ability to pull an ally to you.

A Sage is more like a traditional priest.
