Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing books for a younger audience. I'm 22 and harry potter is one of my favorite series. I've just read them all which was why I didn't want anyone recommending it to me. :P I can take a peak at it.

Trouble is so many series are aimed at teens...makes it hard to find anything.
If you want something fantasy, very much not teen but very different and interesting...try Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson. Definitely wouldn't say it's about wizards/mages though.
