    Suggestion: Level Cap/Sync System

so I just posted this over on the official WoW forums but i know that not everyone from here goes there so I just wanted to see what people on here thought.

I apologise if this is in the wrong place or even if it has been said before but I have been reading a lot of threads about people complaining about how they dislike this or that or how they want a just vanilla server or just a tbc server and I want to put forward an idea.

With the implementation of challenge modes it is clear that blizzard have the technology to cap gear stats but what if it where possible to do this for old raids and instances as well? when you go to the instance with your friends it asks if you want to enter normal or challenge mode,

What challenge mode would do is cap your gear to the appropriate level for example level 70 for sunwell as well as capping your party/raid at 70 allowing people to experience to content at the correct difficulty , instead of having to level dedicated alts/arrange guilds and things.

well you ask what would you get out of it? the challenge? the fun? transmog gear , if that's not enough maybe blizzard could offer unique titles/achievements even jp/valor/gold and unique transmog skins for completion , I know its a lot to say make new armor sets for each old raid as rewards but there could be an npc in stormwind/ogrimmar who sells armor sets and you recieve tokens for completing the old raids in challenge mode.

On top of this the system could be implemented like in final fantasy 11 when the party leader enables 'level sync' all players above his level will be sync to that level, doing so would allow friends to level together who are above each others level , do dungeons and pvp! or just go back and quest in your old favourite zones and get some reward from it.

anyway I apologise if this thread was to long and i apologise even more if it has been said before but I just thought I would post about it to see what people thought

    thanks for reading

I mean it's not that simple. The gear can "scale" down but I believe it scales from existing gear. Back then, that gear didn't exist, and those levels didn't exist. I'm not sure how feasible that could be.

What do you do with enchants? Do you just drop them all? What about gems? It's easy now to scale down but keep the gems, but try going backwards...do they become previous incarnations or what if you enter content before they existed?

I believe they have already talked about this, but the challenge modes are more like a test to see how the "level" / "player" shrink will work out....then they can take it from there

This is a good post. Even if the development team went to the effort of giving every class and specialisation a custom tailored set of gear available during the period when the content was current, you'd still be doing old content in a game with vastly different mechanics and entirely different gameplay philosophy.

To get to the point where it would be worth them actually putting that system out there would require more effort than just simply creating brand new content, and would render the content basically unrecognizable to anyone who actually did the content when it was new.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it is exceptionally more complicated system in practice than you are presenting it, especially in such a mature game like WoW.

Not knocking this idea at all but I don't belive it would work right for the following reasons.

Old content was made/played and tested using the current max level chars including all thier associated skills.
Chars nowadays have different/new skills on which the content mechanics were not tested for.
Rolling a lvl 85 down to 60 would mean losing skills which the class may depend on and probably make the char not function correctly.
There are probably more things along these lines but you get where I'm going.

Non the less I personally would not be against the idea and would most likely try it out myself if it was implimented but I see far to much work needed to justify the time spent.
