In the D&D episode of Community, I noticed they were playing what appeared to be 2nd edition. Wonder why. Anyway, I
m guessing it's because nobody else had dice, but Abed was rolling every roll for everyone. It was weird.

Completely unrelated, I just thought about it.

It's an old style of DMing. It was Gary's way.(not fun in my opinion because his philosophy was DM vs the Players rather than DM and Players forging a story)

No the rules didn't really allow for them. In 3/3.5 you would find rules everywhere for the allowance of roleplaying. While a DM should be able to come up with that stuff yes, sooner or later you need to check the rules for things and a DM won't be able to make everything up.

Those were the rules everyone took for granted in 3.5, the ones where if you made the argument you would get a bonus to whatever and the book made sure you had a reference point, which is what was missing in 4E, because a DM will fudge something up and players will remember older rulings that the DM came up with and things tend to get ugly with yelling and such.

Plus the other things not roleplaying that was missing, like skill check rules. In 3.5 you can find what you get for balancing on ice or in thin surfaces, for climbing when you are being attacked, and so many other things, but in 4E those rules were missing and it was annoying to come up with things that should have been there to begin with.

Find me the rule that says you can't roleplay. You won't, because it doesn't exist. lol We've never had issues with including skill checks in 4th. Sometimes we roll, sometimes we just RP it out. Not everything needs a dice roll and some things are more dramatic with those rolls. If it's not covered in the book, make a decision. If it results in a house rule, make it a house rule. 3/3.5 had the same problem. We had to make house rules for all sorts of circumstances. For example, we had house rules on critical strikes because the by the book versions were boring and made it far less likely that a crit ever did anything meaningful. We allowed crits on skill checks to keep McBluff from being able to lie his way through everything or if someone didn't have the skill still had a chance for a moment of brilliance.

As far as I can see in the DM's guide, the biggest emphasis seems to be on making sure the game is tailored to your group's play style. Hell, we allowed quite a bit of PVP in our campaigns. Why? It was fun!

We did all sorts of things you weren't supposed to be able to do in 3.5 and 4th. It's not like the WotC Police were gonna come knocking on the door and tell us we're "Doing it wrong".

They need to add Baccano too. I'd imagine if they could get Durarara, they could easily get Baccano. Also, you have no idea how much I love the writer for the series for putting an Isaac and Miria cameo in Durarara. That was the greatest thing ever.

They need to add Baccano too. I'd imagine if they could get Durarara, they could easily get Baccano. Also, you have no idea how much I love the writer for the series for putting an Isaac and Miria cameo in Durarara. That was the greatest thing ever.

It wasn't at the start. It was kind of a test. The Cartoon Network guys were like "Hey, guys, we're gonna throw Toonami at you and if you guys watch it and like it, we'll be able to throw more funding at it". Ad revenue from commercials and all that helps, so that's why I leave my tv on every saturday once they restart the lineup again at like 4 am or whatever. I get tired, but I want them to get the money for it, so I just leave it on.
