iPhone 5

So today Apple is announcing the iPhone 5. I didn't see a thread about it already, kinda surprised there isn't one already... oh well.

Anyways, are you guys looking forward to it? Or do you think its just getting old now? We are technically on the 5th generation iPhone (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S.) right now, so we've seen or heard about iPhones for around 5 years now.

I personally, am excited for it, as per usual every year. I've always had a fascination with them, dunno why, but I have. I've owned every generation of iPhone except for the 3G. The 5, based on rumors, seems like it is packing some game changers.

4G LTE
NFC (Near-field communications)
Taller Screen
New Dock Connector
New style Headphones
Better cameras (front and back)
Faster processor chip
Flash support (maybe?)
Aluminum back

I don't have an upgrade available till March, but I can do an early upgrade for the price of the phone plus $200, and the AT&T store manager told me they would take my iPhone 4S for trade in of $200 off the iPhone 5. So I can still get it for regular price.

And yes, I hate AT&T, but stupid contract keeps me with em...

My guess it will look the same, be a bit thinner, different screen and bigger screen.

SPecwise 99% doesn't care, just that it's faster and has better pictures.

I don't care for it - if that is it - certainly not compelled to change from my iPhone4 which has served me well since launch.

Also none of what the OP said is game changing in the slightest.

What exactly is game changing in that list of yours?

Apple practically invented smartphone in my books. Usually when they do something others follow. Apps would like to back me up on that. It's not the exact thing they put in the phone that's game changing, its HOW they put it in there.

It's inevitable in any discussion related to apple, and is useless trolling that prevents real discussion.

Taller Screen - Interesting concept - larger, I can see, but not just taller
New Dock Connector - Great way to isolate your product and restrict access to existing peripherals
New style Headphones - - nothing new
Better cameras (front and back) - nothing new
Faster processor chip - nothing new
Flash support (maybe?) - I doubt it. Would go against Job's memo regarding "why" we don't do flash and may be considered "selling" out to corporatism by the die-hards
Aluminum back - I personally suspect a finish similar to the MS Surface with a copy of the screen tech too that will allow better writing with stylus (also would be against Job's design philosophy though) - just a hunch as it is cutting edge tech.


My staff all run Apple, but I am an S2/S3 fan myself. However, I am anxiously awaiting the MS Surface to replace my 10.1" Samsung Galaxy as it will imo be better for business.

If it looks nice, has 4G LTE and NFC, I'm likely to buy it. If not, I may get an android device.

I'm expecting a bunch of features that have already been released in other phones, touted as "revolutionary" with none of the stuff I really want, yet I will somehow be convinced that it's so awesome that I just have to upgrade my iPhone 4. They always seem to get me excited about something I shouldn't be.

Still, I keep buying their phones.
