I believe Dota was the original game that kicked off Mobas, appearing in Warcaft 3? DOTA 2 is a stand-alone coming on Steam, I dont think its available to buy yet but they've given out 50billion free keys, so everyones got a copy.

Probably. Id like to think the fact I can play LoL would help, although that didnt do me much good when I attempted HoN (possibly the worst gaming experience I've ever had, even got accused of kill-stealing when using an ultimate that dealt more damage the lower the enemy was.)

Dota communities are basically 93% douchebag and 7% nice people. It's really a game you need to be playing with friends if you want to avoid frustration.

Yep, thats one of the reasons I havent tried it, I dont even play LoL if Im not doing it with friends. (My GF I'll do AI and ARAM games with only)
