sad story indeed, best race in the game and left in the dust by Blizzard.
sad story indeed, best race in the game and left in the dust by Blizzard.
Regardless of where they fit in, female Draenei are still the best race in the game.
Got to admit it is sad to see them so undeveloped. But as a race they suffer from the same syndrome the Worgen do.
Outside of their starting zone they have no presence in the world.
They seem to be too legion focused though. My hope is after the short story where Anduin gave Velen a kick in the tail he will realise that his race does matter to Azeroth.
They need to be developed, but so too do the Worgen and the new Pandaren from the wandering isle.
Because they remade the draenei as they did, draenei indeed have little place in the current lore. The current broken, which in WC3 were the only draenei we knew of would have been much better fitted to be an alliance race. As it stands Blizzard fell into a trap when making the playable draenei. Look at them:
-they're better mages then everyone
-they know the Legion better then everyone
-they have better shamans then everyone
-they have a better connection to the Light then everyone
-they are one of the most peaceful races
-they are nice-looking.
etc
So if you see, the draenei excel in most aspects... so then... where do the other races fit in? And here's the problem Blizzard made, since draenei excel in all aspects but have few, if any, problems or gray areas... they're goody characters... and as such, they're not so interesting to people beacause they're bland, they're all white so to say in a world of greys.
Look at any other race. Who do you think are the most peaceful races besides draenei? Usually the answers you get are tauren, gnomes, night elves and stuff like that. Now look at them, gnomes destroy their surroundings, night elves, as much as I like them, are quite vicious and savage and would stop at nothing to win, and tauren think they're above others by offering water to the quillboars only to commit genocide on centaurs.
I don't know, I think that to integrate draenei better in the story the first step is to make them more grey. It would have been even better if the broken draenei were the playable ones instead, a bit more stylised of course, because then at least even if they were good from many aspects, they'd still have a detriment, that they were ugly and living in mud huts.
@Arnorei
Since when do draenei have the best shaman? And the only reason they seem so "flawless" and one dimensional is because blizzard refuses to develop them beyond that, and there's the problem. They had the same problem with the orcs being completely one dimensional and evil until they massively retconned them and gave an explanation for why they are the way they are. All blizzard has to do is give them a little love and keep them from stagnating the way they currently are. This whole "they dont fit so dont even try to change that" mentality is completly backwards. As it is, no one wins. The only relatively unique playable race in warcraft are thrown in the background with barely any development or lore. Who does that help? No one wins here. Blizzard isn't simply going to remove the draenei so we're either stuck with them the way they are or we should give them room to grow.

Both of the BC races have been so popular with players over the years it'd be nice if they got a bit more attention paid to their story lines.
Next Burning Legion expansion -> Draenei will got batshit on Sargeras
