can you drink water a under bridge

can you drink water under a bridge
i live near the Delaware river(new jersey).
if i were to purify the water through boil, tablet, ect would the water be safe to drink.
or is the water just to chemically polluted that purifying is worthless.
(never know when shtf pop off, water is essential)

Depends on what the water is polluted with, if its something with a lower bp than water, then you would just have it in condensed water aswell, if it has a higher bp, then you would have it in the water even if you try to cook out anything below water bp.
If its radioactive, your fucked anyhow, heavy metals are a huge problem aswell, as they are highly poisonous

A water purification tablet will deal with most things but its mostly due to common sense, look at whats around the river is it rural or in the middle of a city etc

    Just be careful.

(Talking from experience by the way as I've drunk from all sorts of sources using the tablets and boil method.)

EDIT: STAY AWAY FROM STAGNANT WATER.
