My guess is that he didn't really die, but entered into a sort of death-like slumber for whatever reason, some side-effect of his fiddling with things best left unfiddled with. The mogu did not know how to bring him back, but the zandalari did. He was placed in his "tomb" to await such resurrection, and has, at last, received it.

I reckon it was either against his specific wishes (since the only form of resurrection mogu seem capable of is storing souls inside stone statues) or they took the prophecy as "Well, there's nothing we can do about it, it's the way the future has to be."

Either (or a combination of the two) seems highly plausible to me, in light of Lei Shen's mindset and that of the mogu in general.

It all makes a lot of sense actually.

-Lei Shen dies of old age. Now, in the 5.2 trailer we see Iron Qon burying Lei Shen. This would mean Iron Qon lived longer? Not really. Maybe he too died in ToT and was ressurected before 5.2 (most likely). Or maybe Lei Shens power put a lot of strain on his body, and led to an unusually short life span.

-Lei Shen left the Mogu powerful, add on Mogu pride, and you have no reason for any successive emperor to ressurect him.

-Mogu are half stone, half flesh. However, we know they are adapt at spirit binding and use there dead for spare parts. Thus, i believe that after Mogu die, there bodies become completely stone. Thus, no organ failure becauae theres no organs to fail. Any damage done to his body by his death cam easily be reversed by arcane magic (we see Mages have some good control over time)

EDIT: Also, Lei Shen had Ra-Dens (or some other Titanic constructs) heart. Id assume that functions much like a battery.

Dude, we both know that it was "clarified" after numerous players pointed out that obvious lorelol. Blizzard were like "uhm, well, they regenerate, but not arms".

It was said since he cut it off it didn't grow back. It also been said the amount of regenration depends on each trolls connection to their god.

Edit from wowpedia: Although enough physical damage will kill them, trolls can regenerate grievous physical injuries at an accelerated rate, giving them a large advantage in battle. When in balance with the loa of their tribe, they are also able to regrow digits (fingers and toes). Tales abound in troll culture, however, of those blessed by the loa with extraordinary regenerative abilities, such as the ability to regrow limbs and even vital organs lost in battle. The tale of Vula'jin the Void speaks of how he regrew almost his entire body after standing in a pool of [Shadowflame]. But just as the loa can bless, they can also curse; troll children are taught legends of those cursed by the loa, unable to heal even flesh wounds, to instill the proper respect for their patron spirits.[3]

Incorrect. I remember reading a blue post about this a long time ago stating that the Zandalari were involved in Pandaria thousands of years ago when the Mogu originally reigned. To this day the bed time stories of the Zandalari trolls are told to little pandaren cubs to make them behave on the Wandering Isle. Don't believe me? Run a pandaren through the starting zone. At one point you'll cross a large bridge where an npc will tell you that the lorewalker is telling her tale. Go down the stairs and sit and listen to the story. After the story, one of the panderan cubs will wish he/she could god exploring, but then one of the other cubs says that the trolls will get him/her.

This continues to make me pout at the computer screen whenever my troll character ran into Pandarens while traveling through Pandaria. The ONLY character to react accordingly was Lorewalker Cho after you defeat the Hozen the first time. He says something like this: "By my living breathe, a real live troll!" Or something like that. I can't remember it exactly and I can't find the quote anywhere.... and I'm not about to power lvl another troll to hear it lol.

Sorry if that went a little off topic lol.

I believe Blizzard made a flaw in the lore.
And then left us to make up something to cover it.
...which is pretty clever on their part.

When you have god-like power and can beat a celestial and a titan watcher on your own i guess the principles of death aren't the same. It's fantasy and Lei Shen is an awesome villain. Blizzard said he died of age to reinforce how badass he was and that nobody could stop him.

He finished his empire, saw that it was good, and retired. Took a nice long nap. Now he's back to help his people again, but man is he ever disappointed in all of you!

    Mogu lore has many flaws.

    Examples:

    http://www.wowpedia.org/The_Sacred_Mount

Says that Ra-Den lived on the Isle of Thunder (Which used to be a giant Mountain), then got slapped by Lei Shen which built the Throne of Thunder there.

    http://www.wowpedia.org/Ra-den

However states that Ra-Den lived there what is now known as the Mogu'shan Vaults.

The Sundering may be the blame for this but Lei Shen turned the Mogu'shan Vaults into a Shrine "Dedicated to the Mogu Empire" which isn't possible if the Mogu'shan Vaults is actually his Throne of thunder palace.

    Another Case, Female Mogu:

    http://www.wowpedia.org/Twin_Consorts

Says that the Twin Consorts are the only female Mogu yet there is a mob that is called the Last Queen of the Mogu which got killed by Lei Shen himself.

    http://www.wowpedia.org/Monara

Or these Guys from the 1st Boss in the Mogu'shan Palace use the following taunts:

Your mother is so old, she saw the rise of the first kingdom!
Your father is so weak that a Pandarian took pity on him and invited him to dinner!

Both imply that the Mogu procreate the "usual" way.

Also, it is stated that Lei Shen is the Son of a Mogu Warlord, which also implies that he has a Mother as well.

The Archaeology description of the Mogu says that they were a race of Brutes that stumbled on the fountain in the Vale and turned into the Mogu, which is untrue as they were titan constructs afflicted with the Curse of Flesh.

Lastly, the Mogu tried to hide Divine Bell from the Shado-Pan after Lei Shen's death, which isn't possible as well because the Shado-Pan weren't around until Emperor Shaohao.

Lei Shen's death is just another one of these cases where Blizzard badly tries to give an explanation and just goes against their own established lore.

Monara is a common fantasy name. I don't think they simply pulled it from a wow porn character. I'm sure they know, though.

Lei Shen dispatched of all the Mogu females to get the mogu further away from the curse of flesh, the only way for them to reproduce would be the good old titan based stoneshaping.
But he left the twin consorts, the last 2 female mogu alive, as the ultimate prize for him.

Monara, the queen was also a female mogu ( lei shens partner ) killed by him.

Mogu bodies don't work like normal 'fleshy' bodies.

It's even referenced somewhere their blood is metallic.

So with that, and the fact that he has the power of a 'Thunder God' infused with him, a little -jumpstarter- on his torso would likely do the trick.

When we kill him for Wrathion, his heart is shrivelled, indicating he wasn't living on it normally.
