We have fire alarms specific to rooms because if those fire alarms were dorm wide, we'd be forced to evacuate the dorm 1-3 times a day.

We do have dorm wide ones as well, but those only go off if an apartment is essentially burnt to the ground (seriously, someone set their oven on fire and it caught to the cupboards and nearly burnt down the place and the dorm wide fire alarm did not go off) or if someone didn't close their door when their rooms fire alarm went off.

It is unsafe, but I'm still trying to figure out how the dorm is even legal to house people. Apparently, in the winters, when the heaters come on, sometimes the electricity here surges and turns on the ovens, people leave shit on the ovens here all the time and even crumbs will set on fire, all while everyone is asleep.

I suppose it is slightly less unsafe than it sounds, the fire alarms are very loud. For example, whenever our across the hall neighbors set off their fire alarm, even if our door is closed, and their door is closed, we can still hear it. When a fire alarm goes off, an RA is required to shut it off, after they shut it off, they go check on the apartment to see if everyone is alright and whether or not we need evacuation or something. The only issue is that sometimes all three RAs will be gone, and so the RAs from the Suites are called. It can take them sometimes up to 15 minutes to get down here. I don't know what would happen if our RAs were gone and the Suites RAs were gone, we'd probably have to call the fire department all the time.
