i see some people call the nativ americans "indians", i belive that is political incorrect as they have no conection with India, but just got that name in the historybooks becaus Colombus didnt know where he really was at the time.

Regarding the murders of so many native americans and other native people around the world really got me thinking about how animalistic we still are. Its a typical example in biology when a new speciec is introduced to a new habitat.

So to belive we have cut the cord with mother nature and the evelution is just a fantasy.

Dont get me wrong, i dont see the white man as a better speciec, rather the other way, but it is a fact that if the white man didnt grow ethical and moral by the time they did the world would have been different.

Seeing how most natives refer to them selves as Indians can it really be seen as wrong? It's the same thing where using the term colored or black is wrong, yet I'm fine being called either of those really.

At least here in Canada, back in the 1800's the government actually encouraged Natives to go on Welfare so they weren't taking money and business away from white people.
It was difficult in the first place for Natives to get land, while the government was giving away large tracts to new white farmers, Natives only got small tracts. Productive Native farmers were often unable to get permits to sell their produce.
Encouraging reservations to go on welfare produced a welfare culture. Generations grew up thinking living welfare was normal. What do you do when you have nothing but time and money? You waste it away on drink, really, which is why there's such a problem. This is "normal" for a lot of natives on reserves. It's not going to change overnight.
That being said, I am Native. I never lived on a reserve. My dad got away from that when he was young, so there are people who can and will break that cycle.

It pretty much totally depends on the circles you're in when you use the term. Some Native Americans, it doesn't bother. Others see it as a leftover incorrect moniker placed upon them by imperialists who slaughtered their people en masse. Since pretty much no one but Gamdwelf has a problem with "native american" I'd just as soon use that.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

i pesonally have never met a native american that gave a fuck if referred to as "indian" - they all actually used the word themselves. but i acknowledge that while ive known plenty, i by no means know all of them, and im sure some are more sensitive towards it

When I lived in Chicago, I managed a seasonal store on Navy Pier, before relocating to a year around store, and there was a shop on the pier that sold native American "stuff", all hand made and absolutely incredible. I believe the shop was owned/run by two families. So I used to chat/see them every day...especially their daughter who is still one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. (YES, i was utterly smitten with her).

I don't know man..., you're not really trying if you claim you don't know where the Native Americans are.

That's like asking on a forum where the Mississippi River is because you don't know. 5 seconds of research would tell you.

I remember seeing columns and columns of teepees just while driving down the highway in Oklahoma. Go to one parade, and they are all over the place.

    For posterity.

Would be a lot more of them but yall ancestors committed genocide to the Native Americans. Not in history as a genocide but might as well call it one.

Here in Ontario, Canada a lot of them live in Northern Ontario but there's still pockets in Southern Ontario. A lot of tales of corruption, drinking, drugs, and poverty have made the news the last few years. A lot of land claims too that are still unresolved. Not all are like that as Casino Rama is run my Indians and I have no doubt they make quite a bit up there.

    To quote a certain vampire:

"You won! All right? You came in, and you killed them and you took, their land. That's what conquering nations do! That's what Caesar did, he's not going around saying "I came, I conquered, I felt really bad about it"! The history of the world is not people making friends. You had better weapons, you massacred them, end of story!"

While it was indeed a rather systematic effort to either murder the natives or push them off their land, guilt about it is a little futile; all that can be done is try to end the cycle of poverty that exists amongst some of the remaining tribes.

I can acknowledge my various heritages (I am an eighth Native American, though without documentation - one of my great grandmothers on my mother's side was forced to disown her origins and destroy any records, though we've managed to recreate some very very educated guesses) without actually claiming them.

I would never call myself an Indian (especially since I don't look it in the slightest, though that by itself shouldn't stop someone who does want to call themselves the race they feel more aligned with), but that doesn't make it not a part of my family tree. Similarly, there is a lot of black in my family not that far back. I don't consider myself any part black, but it's still an interesting part of my family's history, and worth knowing just for that.

I get a chuckle at all the people that watched Pocahontas when they were young and based their view of reality on it. Granted, we ended up doing some shitty things to them towards the end of our conquest, but those people that believe the Native Americans were carebears are fooling themselves, they were just like any other group of people at that particular stage in societal development. They warred, committed genocide against each other and *gasp* even employed slash and burn techniques in their agriculture.

Yep, I'm 6 Nations from Upstate New York, and we always would go up to the Rez. In fact, probably the best known Native actor is Six Nations (Graham Greene). We never went much farther North than Toronto.

We (as a race) came more to the forefront recently with the recent NCAA Basketball tournament with the University of Louisville. Starting guard for the men's team, Peyton Siva is Native, but was hardly mentioned. The focus was on Shoni and Jude Schimmel, starting 2 guard and backup point guard for the women's team. Every game had a pregame focus on them coming from the Rez in Oregon and how they had people coming from all over the country to see them play and had 5-6 generations of family at the Final Four.

Sad that's the only time we seem relevant.

Pocahontus was buried in the town where I was born, we learnt her story as school children (Disney can go fuck themselves).

There was some bloke in Cyprus who was about 7 feet tall, he was some sort of redskin, but I forget which tribe he said he was from - if they've got as far as Cyprus, then I'm sure there must be a few left in the US.

The girl on Banshee is hot.

I used to be in a guild with a girl who was part redskin (Bod...).

That pretty much is all I know, or care, about Native Americans - some of the Central and South American cultures are fairly interesting, but I couldn't really give a fuck about people who had barely made it out of the Stone Age by 1500 AD.
